With the recent increase in global warfare, there has been an influx of refugees throughout the world. The immigrant opts to seek a safe heaven in the European countries, however; the Europeans are angered by the increase of immigrants. It is worth noting that, the issue of refugee was the one of the factors that facilitated Britain to leave the European Union. There are two prevalent schools of thoughts with regards to the increase in the number of refugees. According to the liberalists they uphold the asylum principle and still hold onto the fallacy that a boarderless world can be created. On the other hand, there are the xenophobic theorists who virtually disregard international principles and are against the refugees relocating to their country
Refugees have over time been viewed as being a burden on the Country’s economy and this is attributed to the fact that, most of the refugees lack economic sources of income. Countries such as Germany have actually stated that, despite the goodwill to accommodate the refugees, they ought to strive to make an economic impact to the Country and not being mere dependents. On the other hand, culture is by far one of the most fundamental factors that any particular country in the world would pride themselves. However, based on the theory of great replacement by the French theorists, it depicts a situation by which, due to the overtime influx of refugees from both the Asian and African countries, the fundamental principles carried by the French have been depleted.
The estimated number of refugees to European countries has greatly increased to about 1 million as compared to the previous years. Therefore, due to this influx, the European Union has opted for Turkey as an alternative destination for the refugees. However, this begs the question as to whether, Turkey’s economy is equally strong to facilitate the sustainability of the refugees who are being diverted to their country. Countries such as the United Kingdom have overtime put stringent measures on their boarders and therefore; making it quite difficult for refugees to come into the country which could actually be viewed as a positive initiative in that, according to a recent study made, over 10 European countries hold the view that limiting the number of refugees in the country, adamantly reduces the number of terrorist attacks that has been on the rise.
On the other hand, the routes that the refugees use in order to get to their destination is quite hazardous. It is estimated that about 3700 refugees drowned as they tried to reach Italy for safety and on another occasion, 500 immigrants were killed in Zuwara Libya as they tried crossing the hazardous Mediterranean Sea. Finally, the other problem facing Europe is the lack of uniform asylum principles that could apply to all the European countries uniformly. Over 10 European countries hold the belief that, allowing refugees in their country increases the possibility of terrorist attacks occurring. Therefore, despite the challenges that are being faced by both the European countries and the refugees, there is adamant need to strike a balance on whether to uphold the sovereignty of the country or protect the rights of the refugees.
