1. Find the literature review in this article. Where is it? Describe it. Why/how does it help the author?
The article evaluates how women in United States understand birth and reproduction in the reality-based programs on televisions. However, the research indicates that these shows fail to provide accurate portrayal of how women normally experience birth in US. The shows also do not provide consistency with evidence-based practices in maternity. Not in all condition that a woman needs medical intervention when giving birth of which these shows fail to portray. In other words women are represented as inferior. This literature review offers the author a convenient guide on a specific subject and also acts as a stepping stone.
2. What else might these authors include to support their argument? What types of information might they add?
In order to provide substantial information to this argument, I think authors have to include analysis of the other gender representative to provide a relative media representation. The authors should be in a position to answered question such as; how men are represented in media? What is the comparison between men and women in media representation?
3. Pay attention to the end of the article. What strategies do the authors use to continue the conversation for future researchers or readers?
The authors have analyzed the second phase of media processes showing the actual representation of media in reality-based programs on televisions. This creates a chance for the future research to base the study on the first phase of media processes. The future research should be able to outline how these reality-based programs are developed. The authors have also left the third stage of media process untouched creating a fresh area of study. The research should be developed to outline the influences of reality-based television shows.
4. Discuss the audience for this article and the other articles (Martin) we've read in this unit. Who is it, and how do you know?
The audience of this article is a pregnant woman who seeks maternity guidance on these reality-based television shows. This is evident because the author is emphasizing on correcting the pregnancy issues that are misrepresented in the media and as a result only provides a negative depiction. The authors aim is to provide a way forward to women who have been misguided by these shows.
