Interview between a TV presenter and a presidential aspirant
Presenter: Good evening sir?
Aspirant: Good evening thank you!
Presenter: Who is Mitt Romney?
Aspirant: Romney is an American citizen, born, brought up and educated in this country. I have made a lot of contributions in this country making be the best qualified person for this job.
Presenter: what contributions have made in the lives of Americans?
Aspirant: First, I have been a dedicated business consultant with the Boston Consulting Group before venturing into the Bain Capital Equities and other sectors. Besides, I have also held senior positions in the government. My contribution to national politics also speaks for itself: I’ve been the 70th governor of Massachusetts since 2002. I significantly did a lot for these people motivating me to plunge into this year’s presidential race.
Presenter: What do you think of Obama?
Aspirant: For sure, president Obama does not qualify to be the next president of this country. We all know that he has failed in implementing his policies. America can not live on hopes, we must act. It is now or never!
Presenter: you have been accused of a series of scandals. What do you say about that sir?
Aspirant: Never! All these are politically conspired scams exclusively aiming at bringing me down. My records are very clear right from my childhood, college years, and private employment and now that I’m deeply involved in national politics (laughs).
Presenter: What do we expect of your government?
Aspirant: I am looking for a transformed American society. Our policies in the Republican Party, as is always known, are based on economic, judicial and social prosperity. There will be a democratic space for all the political ideologies. Security will be prioritized and basic facilities like health care, education and job opportunities increased. This will absolutely empower all the US citizens (laughs).
Presenter: (Smiling) Thank you very much. All the best!
Aspirant: Thank you. God bless you and the people of America (he exits).
Presidential debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney
Anchor: In three words, how can you describe how far America has gone?
Obama: Admirably prosperous stable country
Romney: Awfully demoralized stagnant nation.
Anchor: Mr. President, do you agree with that statement?
Obama: (Smiles!) The US law guarantees everyone freedom of speech and expression. Romney should be respected for his opinion. However, I can confidently rebuke him by saying that it is a totally malicious unfounded assertion that does not represent America.
Anchor: Mr. Romney. Your say!
Romney: insecurity has become popular with Americans. Economy has greatly declined in the recent past with the social disparities widening. Many people are unemployed because of the poor leadership.
Anchor: So, who is to blame?
Romney: (Laughs) obviously the current administration (pointing at president Obama).
Anchor: but I think you have been serving the same government?
Romney: Of course yes. But not at the helm! (All laugh).
Anchor: (Looking at Obama) why is it that you are blamed by your opponents for derailing the development of this country?
Obama: Naturally, all leaders must be criticized. Even God is loved and hated in equal measure. However, they are not justified because my administration has done a lot for our people. Security has been tightened with even the dreaded Bin Laden eliminated (All laugh).
Romney: (To Obama!) Do you agree that your foreign policies have jeopardized US- Middle East relations?
Obama: My shuttle diplomatic struggles are historic. Tell me any US government that has played a neutral role in the Syria-Turkey ties?
Romney: I don’t believe that is something a respected leader like you can allude to in such a serious discussion. Your actions strained our friendship with the extreme Muslim Brotherhood community (All clap in appreciation).
Anchor: Let us now conclude by telling the world your aspirations. Mr. Romney! (Pointing at him!).
Romney: As already known. I mind well for a peaceful, harmonious, healthy, educated and a prosperous nation. In my government, everyone will be granted an equal opportunity regardless of their diversity.
Obama: I will bring an ideal blissful society with all the admirable features. Thank you!
Anchor: Thank you very much for your time. Success in your campaigns (they shake hands, wave to the crowd and leave).
Outsider’s memoir
I used to refute my colleagues for repeatedly saying that I will be a politician in future. At first, it was not making sense to me because of the perception that politics is not a career, but a mere dirty game reserved for the selfish liars out to fulfill their individual desires at the expense of the suffrage.
However, one incident that permanently changed my attitude is the insightful interview hosted by the Citizen Television’s W.W. Miners. During this time, I was so perplex at the way Mitt Romney felt so honored to respond to provocative queries from this celebrity. Moreover, I was emotionally touched when I learnt that politics is not reserved for the rich, but open to anyone irrespective of their background. No one was born a politician because they are made. So, the most important lesson is to identify my potential and nurture it appropriately. It was so interesting to learn about Mitt’s history especially how the idea of plunging into the American politics struck him in 2002.
The other memorable event was the debate organized by the TNN Television Network for the leading American presidential candidates- the Democrat’s Barrack Obama and Republican’s Mitt Romney. I chose to include this piece in this memoir because it really motivated me a great deal. It opened my mind to critically acknowledge that politics is not bout fighting. In fact, from their peaceful debates, I came to learn that, in politics, there is permanent enmity. Before then, I knew that two rivals can not meet face to face lest they confront one another. However, this was never to be since the two great men (who refer to one another as an opponent, not an enemy), tolerated one another and surprised the whole world.
In other words, I would like to accept that these incidents were life changing because of their uniqueness. They both demonstrate to us that life is not all about rivalry, but ideology. We should be proud of our diversities and never use them as a tool to oppress others. The two debates each shows that everyone should be empowered and given an opportunity to develop. Obama himself is a Negro, while Romney is a pure white. However, despite all these, they are equal in the eyes of the American voters. Thus, they are given equal chances of campaigning, selling their policies and coaxing the electorate. Long live America! Long live Americans!
