RE : MINE SAFETY ISSUES
This Memo serves as our guideline that will be implemented for the purpose of establishing mine safety policy in the company. In order to prevent injuries and death of the workers, the company has to look at the safety issues differently and improve on the codes of practice, protection equipment and regular maintenance of equipment of the miners. As managers of the company, you are tasked to ensure that safety initiatives are being implemented in the company to protect the workforce. There is an expectation that miners should refuse to work in unsafe working areas. Thus, the company has to ensure that the working areas are secured in order to promote the safety of the miners. As managers, you must be able to realistically assess the current situation and how an accident is likely to evolve. The company must also establish an accident response team that will address the chaotic domain in the event that emergency situations will arise. The managers must be able to set boundaries for who will be on the accident response team and motivate them to address the problem. When confronted with a crisis, the designated team leader of the response team must be able to lead disciplined and coordinated execution of the rescue plan.
As part of the preventive measures, the company should also establish habits of safe behavior among the workforce. This means that the miners create habits around mindfulness and being fully aware of what is happening in their surroundings. Time and resources of the company can be saved by embracing a safe-fail experimental approach by trying multiple small interventions in low-risk areas for the purpose of monitoring the success or failure of the mining operation. The compliance to code practices can be done by providing the proper training to the work force. Incentive schemes can also be offered to requiring safe behavior among the miners to avoid these accidents. This will encourage the work force to be more mindful of their working environment. Implementing safety programs through empowered work force will enable to prevent possible injuries and deaths. As managers, you are expected to address the safety initiatives of your employees.
