In contemporary global society, social media is a fundamental element that has influenced individual’s lives. Social media has become a multidimensional syndrome that has cause negative impacts on the cognitive and behavioral symptoms. This study focuses on the influence of social media for anxiety. The study sought to investigate the impacts and relationship of social media with the society through conducting quantitative researches. Survey close-ended questionnaires have been used to determine the cognitive impacts of the social media on the society. Furthermore, this study determines negative outcomes of the social media examine social interaction and the problematic media usage among the people.
- Participants
Participants for the study were about 500 undergraduate students from the different universities and schools (280 females and 220 males), aged ranging between 1- 17 years and 18-30 years using different social media forums and websites. The survey questionnaires were distributed among the different schools and universities. The participants reported having an experience of 1-27 years of using television, whereas 1-14 years of experience of the different social forums and websites and 1-18 years of experience of using a computer. Random sampling was done in to obtain a general opinions and experiences of the participants to determine their cognitive and behavior pattern with respect to the social media.
- Materials
POSI is used as a predictor and cognitive behavioral model of PIU to simultaneously test the relationship between social anxiety and the social media. Social Avoidance Distress Scale is used to evaluate the results of the participant’s score. The average score was use to produce an overall index score for the social anxiety. Furthermore, the surveys and the participants were rated with the POSI written based with the use of the Caplan with the scale range of 1 (Strongly Disagree) to 5 (Strongly Agree) to determine the statements of the participants. The surveys were based on the different variables and measures to determine the influences of social media on anxiety. The negative outcomes of the social media were drawn through the range scale followed by the descriptive statistics to analyze the reliability. To generalize the survey answers; SEM analysis was used as in indicator to construct POSI.
- Procedure
The study’s main focus is to determine the increasing anxiety with the inducement of social media in their life. Quantitative research is conducted to determine the systematic empirical information about the social phenomena as it provides understanding and reasoning to the subject. The influences and impacts of the social media have been sub divided into variables to the use of different social medium and its relation to anxiety. The participants were obtained from the different regions in order to obtain generalized information about the relationship between social media and anxiety. One of the limitations of the study is that, it does not investigate people above age of 30, though they also use the social media in their lives. In addition, the study does not examine the wide variety of the reasons and causes of people’s attitudes, interpersonal behavior and social skills.
