Article introduction
In the article the author chooses an interesting fact as the introductory approach. The introduction paragraph is effective in presenting the challenge of unemployment in the United States. The article captures the tribulations of an individual after they lose their job during the tough economic times. This introduction engages the reader to read the entire article. The reader would want to understand the employment situation following the short story of Michelle Hall. As a victim of chronic unemployment in the United States the author uses the story to prick the emotional consciousness of the readers. It is pertinent to note that this introduction is highly emotive. This approach is easier to capture the attention of readers than directly starting off with statistical facts. As an article introduction approach its effectiveness is determined by the level of interests it raises on the reader (Coy 1).
The short run period for fixed costs varies from one industry to another since it must match an entire production cycle. The production cycle in the design and production of an automobile is different from the growth and processing of wheat in an agricultural set up. The differences in the time frames in the short run across the two industries are based on the time taken to produce a product. In the automobile industry the design process for a new product takes more than two years. On the other hand the season for wheat growing is less than one year for some species and the processing process takes less than a month. These discrepancies in the time frames for the short run have a significant influence on the determination of the proportion of fixed costs involved.
