Age has been considered the biggest achievement one has to attain a lot of respect in the society. The elderly are considered as the most valuable members of the society because they have a lot to give to the growth of a community. In middle life, the number of the aged in the community was higher since people were expected to live longer. During the average life, the elderly were well cared for. They had many siblings who could be at their disposal to meet their needs. For instance, the Arabs and Islam law taught that the children should take care of the elderly. This was aimed at preventing the children from sending their aged parents to care homes (Jason 129). The Muslims live in extended homes where they have the lineage, and the elderly own a place of honor in the family. They were accorded comfort, security, and respect. The European Christians took upon themselves to caring for the elderly in the society. They collected money from the members and provided the elderly with what they needed.
The protestant reformation was as a result of the Protestants being dissatisfied with the Catholics. This led the rise of many Protestant denominations. The Reformation resulted in growing of movements that protected the vulnerable in the community including the women, the children and the aged. Intergenerational relations was the relationship between the parents and their children. The parents provided a better life to their children and helped them become successful. The children had a better pay than the parents due to advanced economies. This led to the children taking care of their parents, and this resulted in the better living of aged since they had more wealthier relatives to take good care of them (Sharon 23).
The demographic transition is the evolution of the of higher birth and death rates to lower birthrates and mortality rates. This transition was very successful in developed countries where they had low mortality rates. The developing countries are also adopting the transaction. This has made it easier to take care for the aging because they are few and in good health condition. The elderly can receive better treatment. The old were being taken care of since the olden days. Many cultures have had and always have better programs to caring for the elderly in the society.
