Should Everyone Serve Two Years’ Mandatory Military Service?
As many know in some countries it is mandatory for every young person to serve at least two years of military service in honour of their country. With military and global conflict arisen in this day in age, some suggest that the United States should regulate such a policy, in which it is mandatory for all citizens at a specific legally-consented age to be subject to binding military enrollment. It is in my most humble opinion that it should not be mandatory for all young people to serve a two-year period of service in the military to their country. When we speak of military service, we do not necessarily speak of national service that is outside of the realms of warfare and battle. It is to my understanding that all individuals should have a choice as to whether or not they wish to join the United States military and by doing so making this decisions fully and completely by their own accord and willingness.
If military service was deemed mandatory for all young people, this would not only go against all acclamatory perceptions of decisions made by complete and utter free-will that all individuals should be entitled to; this concept of course being situated in the realms of good citizenship standing, behaviour and lawful virtue. By forcing young individuals in the military against their own will, would only make it more difficult to succeed them in performing their regulated duties and responsibilities with full reliability and achievement. The United States Army would become much less powerful for one, not to mention the amount of trouble that could arise from young adults in the prime of their lives and experimentations, being held against their own will for a duty that could ultimately result in life or death. There are many other forms of national/public services in which one can take part of to make their nation a better place, ones in which best suits the specific individuals particular interests, intentions, skills, motivations, etc.
On another note let us understand that at the very young age of eighteen, the young adult is generally in the process of finding themselves as an individual in the greater sense of life. This means finding their purpose in this vast global domain, socially, emotionally, sexually, physically, psychologically, spiritually, etc. therefore why would any form of government compromise the naturalistic and primitive structures of early adulthood by promoting central combat, conflict, hostility, contention, sin, bloodshed and battle. This can not only be very traumatic and life changing to any individual that volunteers in the military, but more so that it would be a forced conception to all of this negative decree in which makes it so counterproductive and wrong.
When an individual is ready, and truly believes that they have found their calling, and that is to fight for their country. These are the attitudes that make a military so strong and powerful. Not to that of wasted lives by individuals unwilling, unmotivated and reluctant to sacrifice their early lives for a cause that is generally at this point in their lives, not understood or misconceived. Sure we can assume that military service at a young age is an excellent form of becoming a disciplined, active, and capable young adult. However no government should have the ability to force any individual to grow up or how to act without mutual consent given by the patron himself.
I believe that it is in the heart of a volunteer that gives an individual and an entire nation its immense strength and positivity. It is those who volunteer that truly dedicate themselves whole-heartedly to a particular cause of their choice, and by doing so, put in their best efforts towards aiding in the particular cause. This is a gesture that cannot ever be forced or desecrated. Therefore I believe that young people should be able to choose whether they wish to serve in the military& by doing so willingly, having them pave their own path in life with freedom of choice.
