Robin Wood together with his band made up of merry men had an entirely successful round of activity in their first year. Generally, with the new recruits coming from every corner of England, Robin had in fact accomplished his aim of strengthening its numbers. Even though he was now satisfied with the large membership of his organization, he came to the realization that he had not be made necessary preparations for accommodating the now massively overflowing members of the entity. Several challenges were abounding for Robin Wood such as inadequate provisions and limited finances. (Dess, Lumpkin, Eisner, & McNamara, 2014)
The mission statement of the organization was pegged on the ideology around robbing from the wealthy and passing the loot to the poor in the society. Besides, it had to stay focused on its long-term goal of removing Prince John from power. This would be accomplished by letting free King Richard from his supposed detention in Austria. Generally, the mission of the organization may not be deemed appropriate since it borders on violence.
SWOT analysis
Core competencies of the organization
The basis of the strategy for the band would be to capture and redistribute incomes and wealth to the affected parties primarily the poor in the society. As a result, its core competency was pegged to its massive interest in the ideologies of this group.
Strategic Business Unit strategy
This is based on a combination of two factors i.e. cost and leadership. As is magnificent, the issue of cost regularly crops up in the case study primarily because the group could not amicably fend for the required provisions. Leadership, on the other hand, is visibly shown by Robin Hood through the guidance that he offered to the organization. It is through this leadership that the group was capable of attaining several set aims.
Strategic issues facing the organization
The issue of discipline and the strengthening of the sheriff forces is a strategic issue that should be addressed by Robin Hood. This is in addition to the growing numbers of the organization and financial inadequacy that is crippling its operations. As a result, Robin Hood should explore his environment and the available skills of his people to find effective ways of going through the strategic issues that have plagued it.
Actions to be undertaken
The first action that should be undertaken by Robin Hood would be to effectively reorganize the structure of the band. He should check on the admission of new members, as well as, find the means of providing for them. Afterward, Robin Hood should find ways of helping the Barons free King Richard consequently restoring back power. Through this, he would have already made his revenge and thus would not any longer require the services of the band.
Lessons learned from Robin Hood
A lot of lessons can be learned from Robin Hood's case study. This is primarily because the skills and determination exhibited in the case are relevant to today's organizational techniques. Some of the lessons learned encompass:
Having a clear plan- There was a cruel increase of taxes by Prince John that the poor villages would otherwise not be able to pay. Robin Hood's organization would thus rob the oppressing nobles and redistribute the wealth to the poor.
Appreciating your team- Robin assisted Richard in the reclamation of his throne and also saved a maid, Marian, from possible execution.
