Missouri River Wastewater Essay

We are all knowledgeable on how the quality of water has been degrading because of the wastes that continuously contaminate different bodies of water. People are also aware that water is essential for us to be able to survive in our daily lives. Therefore, people should act as stewards of the environment and devise treatments facilities to mitigate and to totally eliminate contaminated water from the system. One of the facilities that regulate the flow of wastewater is the Missouri River Wastewater which is located in Omaha.
It is noticeable how the treatment facility goes in order to maintain and to regulate the flow of wastes to stop the degradation of water quality. The wastewater treatment in Omaha has primary clarifier which settles out the water leaving the dissolved and soluble material in the stream. From the clarifier stream exiting stream, wastes undergo trickling filter, a biological process which uses plastic media. The organisms in the waste will stick to this filter. Plastic media turns organisms to nutrients and the remaining components of the wastewater will be sent to the large sedimentation basins then to the chlorine contact basin. This chlorine contact basin is responsible for the disinfection or purification of the wastewater.
Basically, the wastewater treatment plays a very essential role in diminishing water pollutants, with high efficiency if not total removal, which could further degrade the quality of water. Aside from that, I was also able to observe that wastewater is not just all the water coming from industrial and domestic system. I learned that wastewater also includes the rainwater and acid rain which is a causal effect now due to climate change. Treatment facilities are indeed necessary in order to prevent high chances of contamination of our natural water streams.
