Mob Justice At School Essays Examples

It all began in the afternoon when my fellow students were in the field playing. My few colleagues and I were coming from a meeting that was organized for student leaders. We were walking majestically towards the direction facing the field where some students were playing football while others were playing hockey and cricket. The weather condition was fine during that day because the sun was shining and the clouds were scattered thus allowing the sunlight to pass through to the ground. However, the only voices that were heard during that time at our school compound were those coming from the field. Along the pavements were several students coming and others going to their hostels because there are two pavements that link classes and hostels but cuts across the field where teams were playing.
It all dawned on me when I heard a loud scream coming from the mob that was yelling, “A Thief! A Thief!” repeatedly, while moving towards us. I was astonished to realize that the mob was stoning a man who was bleeding profusely in the process and he was screaming in agony. At that juncture, some of the spectators who were watching game in the field ran towards the mob, some with hockey sticks on their hands among the other objects. I was saddened to realize that they were running to participate in the mob justice of a man who was caught stealing laptops from one of the students’ room. I ran towards the scene to see the possibility of stopping the act, but on reaching there, stones were still flying in the air accompanied by lots of beatings to the suspected thief. I thought quickly as a leader the way to rescue that poor man who was unconscious at that time. Actually, I felt very sorry for him because he had been beaten badly with blood coming from every part of the body.
Luckily, I received support from some policemen, who are hired by the school, to stop the rowdy mob that was about to kill that suspected thief. After seeing the policemen coming, I got the guts to shout to the mob “Please, stop killing him, the police are here to arrest him.” No sooner had the policemen arrived at the scene than the mob dispersed because of fear of being arrested. The victim was left alone on the ground bleeding on the pool of blood that was oozing from his body as a result of the mob justice. I quickly called the school ambulance to carry the victim to the hospital before he loses his life. I helped carry him into the ambulance and we hurried to the school hospital for treatment.
At the hospital, the victim was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) because he had several internal injuries. At the ICU, his heartbeat was being monitored while receiving additional oxygen supply. I was there at the hospital for a very long time to get the feedback from the doctors during the entire process. At night, at about eight O’ clock, I saw one doctor coming towards where I was seated with a gloomy face. I noted his face and realized that there must be something wrong with the victim. I stood up with a shock when he told me that the man had succumbed to severe internal injuries and was then pronounced dead. I could not stop the cry and the flowing tears while moving back to where I was seated. I remembered very well how I sobbed on that bench with pain deep in my heart for very many hours.
Later, I went back to report the case to the school administration who took the case from there. From that day onwards, as a student leader, I started a campaign to fight against mob justice. I received great support from both the school and the government authorities. I taught my fellow students the best way of handling thieves, for instance, taking them to the authorities other than taking the law into their own hands. Since then, cases of mob justice have greatly reduced in our school and I feel happy about it today.
