Shashua and Aviram, two friends and simultaneously Jewish specialists in the sphere of engineering (whereas first one was a prominent scholar, the second one applied his knowledge and skills on practice), created the concept of self-driving car in 1999, when other producers did not imagine how it should look like. The final product appeared on the market in 2014 and it was called Mobileye, the cost of which was estimated approximately $ 11 billion.
It has become a part of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (hereinafter – ADAS), which differs from the similar market products by having single low-cost camera scanning the road and identifying obstacles as well as road signs (Google, e.g. has two cameras). Then, the system interprets the data and, consequently, sends them to its center, which could be either driver or automatic system. Additionally, the camera plays a role of primary sensor, which lowers the costs for the production of such ADAS and plays important role by reducing the accident rate.
Not being a theoretical project, Shashua and Aviram, in contrast to other producers, created their own software applications and gadgets, which support Mobileye, including custom semiconductor chip, simple camera, and warning display. These advantages and progressive thinking led to lots of installments to the company from Goldman Sachs, Tesla, and Volvo. This demanded appropriate number of employees, which is now more than 650 people. All these circumstances led to Mobileye’s leadership on nowadays ADAS market, performing better, than Google, for instance, does.
