Introduction
There are three major models of human service delivery that are used for treatment and diagnosis of patients; this includes the public health model, the medical model and human service model. The medical model is one of the oldest models that has been used in treatment; it involves the use o both medication, laboratory analysis and physical therapy. Before the introduction of human services and psychoanalysis, mental patients were treated as patients with the illness. The public health model is another human service delivery model that proposes the improvement of public health as opposed to treating an individual when they are sick. With the public health model, illnesses are reduced by preventing factors that cause the diseases, this involves improving nutrition, maternal health, food safety and water supplies. The human service model, on the other hand, focuses on the balance between individuals and their environment by solving the conflicts.
A science of connectedness presents several approaches to health care through the Holarchy characterized into holons. Two models that can be used in the holarchy of healthcare are medical care and public health model (Stange, (2009). Both models can be integrated to approach the health care. The medical model can be used to approach fundamental health care since it involves the use of medication to treat illnesses affecting patients. As discussed in the article, patients concerns vary from acute to chronic diseases that require immediate medication. These illnesses account for a majority of patients visiting physicians, thus medical model that proposes the use of medication to treat the patients would be necessary. Public health is the other model suitable for treating patients by addressing factors that can cause illnesses as a way of avoiding them. Behavioral risk factors such as obesity can be addressed through public health because they can result in development of other diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
In conclusion, integrated use of both models in addressing health care provides better results than using one model. With the public health model, chronic and acute health incidences will reduce drastically as it approaches health care from a societal perspective. On the other hand, the medical model is necessary for addressing illnesses using treatment and medication. Thus, both methods are useful in approaching health care.
