Greece culture dates back to ancient times and has an enormous heritage to be saved and protected. Though, everything is changing and developing, so that the Greece culture has to keep up with times as well. As for me, the majority cannot imagine their lives without music. That is why the alterations of Greece music attracted me.
Everything started from the songs that were declaring the historical feats and people’s lives. As the time passed, the music was developing and Greeks have invented their national instrument bouzouki which is still being used. In the year 1922 such style as Rebetico was commenced by escapees, who were deported from Asia and sung about what was the dearest and nearest for them, but it was taken away using their bouzouki and guitar. Shortly, they started to become less underground and this is actually how the modern music of Greece was founded. ("Music in Greece: Types and famous artists - Greeka.com", 2016) If to speak about modern music, its most famous representatives are Dionyssis Savopoulos, Georgios Ntalaras, Nikos Papazoglou, Stavros Xarhakos and Pavlos Sidiropoulos, who brought back the Rebetico motives and combined with rock music. ("Music in Greece: Types and famous artists - Greeka.com", 2016) The lyrics are telling us about people’s happy and sad moments, pain and sorrow.
Along with the new music directions, different festivals are held in Greece starting from rock festival Rockwave to Naxos and Megaro Gyzi celebrations with various performances, workshops, lectures. ("Cultural Events and music festivals in Greece - Greeka.com", 2016)
As any country, Greece is developing different spheres and this is the right thing to do. Even though we have to remember our traditions, motion is life and we should understand and accept that.
