Dear Sirs;
I am writing to express my interest in a nephrology fellowship for the academic year 2017/2018.
The selection of nephrology as a future career path had particular interest for me in the years of my training before clinical practice. The pathology of disease is fascinating to me. During clinical training, the intellectual challenge of internal medicine drew me with the problem-solving and teamwork aspects of the specialty. It appears to me that internists and nephrologists work together to assist in the best possible patient care by combining superior skills in diagnostics and cutting-edge procedures. During my time in medical school, I focused on my interest in nephrology by participating in elective rotations in the medical department of regional hospitals and participated in a number of conferences. I was honored to be selected as one of the top eight students at my university and was offered summer training in the United States. I opted for nephrology as my elective rotation and received superior recommendations. I was awarded certificates of appreciation and congratulation by the Minister of Higher Education, the president of my university, and the faculty dean. In my senior year, my GPA of 4.63 and overall honor degree of 4.35 earned me the designation of Valedictorian of my class.
I joined the National Guard Hospital in Jeddah during my internship; the facility is considered the premier patient care facility in Saudi Arabia. I spent two months in the nephrology division of the internal medicine department and another month there as an elective rotation, receiving letters of recommendation from the consultants with which I worked. On completing my internship, I returned to my graduating university as an assistant instructor in the department of medicine to further my experience. I joined the Saudi Internal Medicine Residency Program at the King Abdulaziz Medical City in October 2011 and gained exposure to a large number of cases; we received an average of thirty admissions daily and I learned the ability to combine accurate and quick decisions with thoroughness.
In the course of my fledgling medical career, I have had the fortune to participate in research activities at national and international conferences and have been included in the publication of three papers, one of which was in the field of nephrology. I have a total of 149 continuing medical education hours as a result. I am currently a member of the Saudi Society of Nephrology and the canMEDS competency committee and collaborator microteam. These experiences have been invaluable in assisting me in preparation for my future career. It is my sincere hope that by participating in your program, my skills as a nephrologist will continue to improve.
Enclosed please find my resume for your review. Included are the names and dates of the training, conferences, and seminars which I previously mentioned. I sincerely wish for your consideration of my application and will gladly answer any further questions you may have. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
Sincerely,
