Every child which was born in a religious family has a different order of mind from those children, whose parents do not attend the church and do not believe in the God’s influence on our life. Since his early childhood Max was told that lying, cheating, killing, etc. are cardinal sins and he tried to be obedient in order not to upset his parents. But, on the other hand, he lives in a society, where other children do not follow his pattern of life and who can afford more than Max can. He decides to cheat, because he doesn’t want to be an outsider and because he is sure that parents will punish him for a bad mark by depriving him of an opportunity to do what he likes.
In my opinion, the boy is brought up in fear of doing something wrong and being blamed by his parents, who lead sinless life and want their son to do the same. It is always easier to talk to an outside man, rather than to tell everything to parents. He knows that parents, who follow the Bible’s commandments, like “honor your father and mother and obey them in everything” (Colossians 3:20, English Standard Version) will not support him. At the same time a church youth worker can listen to him and keep the information in secret. The boy will confess to the God and his conscience will be clear before church, as it is important for him to be forgiven.
The best option for Max at the moment is to talk to his parents. If he won’t do this now, then such occasions may become periodic because of his desire to do what likes and fear to do something wrong in eyes of his parents. Being religious people, Max’s parents should be able to forgive and being intelligent people, they should support him by putting themselves into his shoes. Parents are always responsible for their children.
The best invention possible in this case is to organize a meeting of Max and his family in a church with a church youth worker present there. It will be easier for them to understand each other: good Christian parents will not shout at him, and obedient teenager won’t be afraid of explaining his point of view. A cozy atmosphere will contribute to their rapport.
