Moral dilemma arises in the situations, when every decision is of a great significance, every action word can decide the future. And at the same time, there is no right decision and every decision is right. It may sound too convoluted, but that is what people actually have to face.
Moral dilemma was in the center of interest of many philosophers, who tried to find a universal solution for difficult problems. Was it a great decision? Surely. Was it a successful decision? Kantian philosophy puts an emphasis on confession. If you are not sure whether a kid is going to grow healthy or seriously handicapped, but there is a chance for positive outcome, take that chance. If doctors are sure that future will be nothing but painful, think whether you would like to live like this. Maybe you are not acting selfish, you are saving someone from suffering.
One of the greatest difficulties here is that you never know the result. It is easy to say what should have been done afterwards. It is easy to give advice – easier than deciding for yourself. Sometimes it happens that the line between the good and the bad, between the wrong and the right is not very visible. It is important to let everything go and never blame yourself.
But what about kids? One of them is healthy. Another one has brain haemorages in both hemispheres. It means that a baby can join those 5-7% that don't survive. It can end up with serious damages – become handicapped, unable to speak or take care of his own life. However, he may also be one of those, who leave a hospital with minimal negative consequences, and being handicapped will not mean being unable to live normally. And there are a lot of babies with different fate: they are cured, even if everything is serious. What to do in this case? Kant would definitely advice to go for it and hope for the best.
