Motivation, as defined by psychologists, is an internal state that induces a person to engage in particular behaviors. Miner defined motivation as forces that acts and comes from within a person that justifies the effort of a person towards achieving their goals. Even with the said definition, it is hard to gasp the real meaning of the word motivation. That is because the reason behind one’s action can vary from self-want to other’s influence. When it comes to work, motivation plays a very important role to meet the demands of the clients and for the company to achieve good feedbacks. Once a man decided to do something, the plan to achieve that goal, whatever it is, appears. The Action Theory would most likely apply as motivation to a workplace.
Before an action can take place, a plan to make it happen should be made first. The step-by-step procedure in order to attain a goal is crucial, just like the process of scientific method. In the action theory, the first step is that the person desires to do or obtain something. An example of which is when a person accepted a project entrusted by the boss. The person decided to take it on, whether it was because they can do it or because they are just responsible enough not to refuse. The bottom line is that the person confirmed to do it. When this happens, the objectives and goals are determined. To achieve these, a plan is generated and is followed. That individual must then take action in making plans to carry out the task assigned. It can be a change in one’s daily routine, a change of pace, or a change of what the individual is used to. Feedback is important for it can help one’s development whether it’s good or bad. Criticisms to one’s work can actually boost one’s morale or completely destroy it but are necessary in the workplace. Following these can help prevent an employee from procrastination since everything should be planned for the project to be successful.
In summary, every person is unique and everyone interprets actions differently. Each can take whatever path they choose and can still arrive at the same end. But, once they made up their minds to do something, actions will follow. And the Action Theory, I guess, is the best fit as to motivate people of the workforce.
