The Chinese philosopher Confucius once said that all people must chose the job that they love so that they will not get tired of working. However, due to crisis most people do not have a job on their own and this makes them aggravated since they do not have money to pay for their bills, sometimes they even need to borrow money from their friends, relatives, or even worse, maxed out their credit cards until they are kicked out from the bank. As for me, my motivation to go to work is my desire for financial security in the future. It is similar to savings but for a long term. By working, I can save a lot of money for my future needs. It is ubiquitous that according to some financial studies, as people grow old there is a tendency that the costs of living becomes expensive due to health, family needs, and others. Therefore, I am working to save myself from the trouble of going to my relatives or friends just to borrow money because I do not have anything in my pocket. I am working every day to gain security in the later stages of my life. I also plan to start a business before I reach 25 years old. I am working as a contact center employee from Comcast. Well to be honest, technical support jobs are very stressful because when the customers’ call us about the technical issues they are experiencing, we listen, we became the shock absorbers since most of the time, they yell and curse us. Agents are even required to sit for long hours which cause us backaches and kidney problems. Despite all of this, my supervisor helps me a lot by engaging us in a ‘pep talk’ wherein ranks are not implemented. Like we are just talking like friends. I really like that she is very approachable and willing to help us sort escalations. But most of all, unlike other supervisors, she understands our feelings as an agent. Yesterday, we received a lot of complaints about service outages. Luckily, my supervisor gave us an overtime and she included herself too so that she can help us sort out the issues. Moreover, I really like her simple ways of motivating us by posting sticky notes in on our desktops with a message, “Think of happy thoughts,” and “Smile and the world will smile to you.” Sometimes she personally writes interesting quotes from different personalities around the world. I guess that made me stay for three years and counting. If ever that I will become a manager or supervisor in the future, I will do the same thing that she did to us. Thanks to her, despite that Comcast is a very challenging account; I recently got my promotion as a trainer of new employees. Although I am no longer required to answer calls from irate customers, I definitely wanted to share my experiences as an agent to my students so that they will know that I am their mentor and I will be doing my best to guide them. As much as possible, I want my agents to have a complete attendance so that we can work as a team. I am a team-oriented employee and I do my best to help others as well. As a new supervisor, I know that my job is a new challenge for me and yet I feel really happy that I can personally educate the newly hires about the products and services that we offer. Furthermore, I will also engage in a team building so that everybody in the team including myself will have a quality time to bond with each other before we immerse ourselves with the challenge of working as a technical support specialist.
