How could my manager meet greatest success in motivating me? Based on my assessment, it is of obvious nature that my manager can meet the greatest success in motivating me by providing opportunities to help me meet my existence and growth needs. Of the existence needs, the most significant ones which motivate me immensely are the ones which concern with good remuneration, frequent raises in remuneration and a sense of physical security at the work place. The growth needs that matter the most to me are, opportunities to develop new skills and enhance my personal development in addition to a satisfied level of self-esteem to keep me going.
What rewards do I value the most: The rewards that value the most to me on my job are, superior compensation, prestigious job title, reasonable vacation time, sense of job security, sufficient job recognition, interesting nature of work, pleasant job conditions and a friendly group of co-workers. My manager can make the best use of this information by maintaining an apt balance of the factors above on the right time. For instance, if a superior remuneration associated with least job security would not be very enticing for me. Hence my manager should diligently strike a proper balance between the raise in pay with the other related factors such as proper job title, relevant job security and soothing work conditions while providing a practical provision for vacation. A superior job title, recognition and remuneration in absence of vacation and non-cooperative co-workers would not be of great contentment to me.
Comparison of my dominant needs assessment results with my self-perception: the result of my dominant needs assessment is very much in-tandem with my own self perception. I am an individual who strives to achieve maximum possible with concurrent power and sovereign status while being in touch with my colleagues. Since I prefer to maintain healthy social relationships with my colleagues, I am very accommodating to work within a group cohesive environment. Consequently, such accommodating technique would prove to be instrumental in helping me to lend a very cooperative yet high yielding management approach.
How comfortable am I with delegating work to my subordinates: I am very comfortable delegating jobs to my subordinates provided they can assure me of a reasonably superior quality of the work delivered. Restricted intervention from my boss and relevant cooperation from my subordinates would make it easy for me to carry out a tremendously smooth delegation process with supreme quality of work done. My ability to delegate does get affected with my views on the nature of the people. If I can assess a particular individual basing on his needs to be supervised, I can efficiently decide as to which task and to what extent can he be delegated. I hold flexible perceptions about other people’s nature towards work. Without a certain view on my subordinate’s willingness, flexibility and competence to work, I cannot consider him to be included in the circle of delegation. As, delegating without knowledge of the factors listed above, would require me to behave in an autocratic leadership style so as to get the work done by my subordinate.
