1. Rabbit Proof Fence, is a true story of three girls, Molly (14 years old), Daisy (8 years old), and their cousin Gracie (10 years old) from Jigalong, a place nearby the Rabbit Proof Fence, is set in the early 1930’s. The movie portrays the condition of aborigine (half-caste) children where they are snatched forcibly from their families against their wish to work for the white families that assured them a prosperous life. Mr.Neville is the responsible person to find and transport these half-castes to the camps to get rid of the future of Aborigines. As per the federal law, he is authorized to snatch the half-caste children; born out of aborigine and white males and keep them in native settlements, to educate them in western standards, but finally they become servants for whites. The law was meant to eradicate the aborigine population as it believed that these half-castes would turn into white society, as the weaker aborigine gene will reproduce in the future generations. Molly and Daisy escape these camps multiple times by walking along the length of Rabbit-Proof fence to reach their home.
2. The Jigalong tribe that includes Aboriginals as the ethnic group is the focus in the film.
3. The film portrays the deprivation of basic human rights as they are the targets of racism, sexism and unacceptable levels of native violence. The Aborigines deal with poverty and, as a result, suffer with material poverty and relative poverty.
4. Aguirre and Turner, the authors of the book American Ethnicity focus on the dynamics of discernment against the various ethnic groups of America such as the Native and people of color, Asian and Pacific Island Americans, White ethnic Americans, and Latinos. The film Rabbit-Proof Fence deals with a totally different ethnic group; the Aboriginals. Considering the similarities and differences between the book and the film, it is obvious that the ethnic groups need to struggle for their civilization rights.
5. According to the textbook, the people of color, Latinos, and other ethnic groups have been rundown of their equality among the White people, and were considered inferior. Molly, acted by Everlyn Sampi is an Aboriginal by birth, and being faced with the challenges as an aboriginal, she has provided justice to the role played by her.
6. According to me, I believe that the ethnic groups must be provided equal rights as the civilized people, and the government must create laws that support these ethnic groups and provide them with the necessities and education to lead a normal life.
