Movie Review On Malcolm X (1992)

The movie Malcolm X by Denzel made me more confident in my beliefs about: people thinking, seeing and listening to themselves; being self determined; and fighting for progress and a better life. This is because in the society different groups have different wants and desires and they will always fight for their rights. In fighting for their rights the majority group might ultimately resort to prejudice, racism, and even threats. This was shown in the movie when the society was so polarized that the whites would discriminate against the minority who were blacks. However, this did not stop the blacks to think for themselves and fight for their agenda through the nation of Islam led by Elijah Mohammed.
Malcolm X also depicted his desire to fight for a better life when he shifted his allegiance to Sunni Islam. This made him embrace all races as brothers and sisters and to seek for a better relation with God through visiting Mecca at least once in a lifetime. His new allegiance was not received well by his old allies and they fought him bitterly until they assassinated him. This showed that despite the threats and restrictions one should always be self determined and fight for what is good to the society.
Something new I leaned about politics in the movie was that, sadly conflicts and disagreements were solved in a violent way often resulting to murder. There was always an aura of vengeance whenever a wrong was done. This is shown when Malcolm and his friend Shorty decided to date white women, and subjecting them to inhumane sexual acts as vengeance for their ancestors being treated like slaves. In addition, when Malcolm disagrees with Islam nation’s principles and joins Sunni Islam, the disagreement led to his death through murder. This social immorality was clearly brought out by a Martin Luther Jr. quote that campaigned against disagreements through murder but by being diplomatic.
