Introduction
The new world 2005 is breath- taking; romantic- filled and creatively staged historical adventure. The film skillfully written and directed by an excellent film writer and director Terrence Malick, depict along the foundation of the Jamestown, Virginia settlement ,just around the beginning of the United State colonization at which the America was occupied and organized in native tribes. The film draws its inspiration from Captain John Smith and Pocahontas based on a classic poem.
The cast involves Wes studi, Christopher Plummer, Christian bale, august schellenberg, David thelwis and Yolick van wageningen. A highly experienced production team consisting of the director of photography Emmanuel lubezki, production designer Jack Fish, Consumer designer jacquiline west, and film editors Richard chew, Hank Corwin, Saar Klein, and Yoshikawa. Sarah Green as the producer, the film was nominated for its quality cinematography, score and overall production, where it won several awards. The film received many positive feedbacks though according to box office it was not the case, but a big letdown.
The film director Terrence Mallick creatively incorporates unique cultural and naturalistic instances in the film new world 2005. The director based his film on a Buddhism ethnography that greatly utilized many forms of traditional naturalism. In addition to Buddhism ethnography as form for cultural hinterland, the film director also made numerous uses of structural methods of classical music such as Mozart and Wagner.
This is further enhanced by terrene’s enthusiasm for nature and bird watching also plays major roles in enhancing film’s main ideas. Film is said to have successfully reached its culmination, which is its apotheosis. It is a both modern and ancient cinema developed at its most purest and organic form. The film developed in its simplest and greatly refined nature made use of exactly similar tools as those which were present in the infancy of a century ago.
The movie reviewed here is called Pocahontas. In the context of this movie, several aspects have been outlined. The images reflected both the emotional and sociological issues. The movie was a traditional piece of work but it still portrayed issues relevant to the world. The use of fossil in this film was meant to reflect the traditional works of art that relate to the humanity.
The film also reflected the natural setting by the use of sun’s rays glittering through the spectacles that was meant to reflect the sadness from the eyes of the character. In this film, Disney was infantilized and hijacked. This movie was shot in 1995.In this movie the use of simple traditional piece of art was used to bring out the theme that is related to sadness that resulted from hijacking of Disney.
In comparison of the current world movies, the New World appeared more appealing in terms of the message due to the use of few and piece of creativity as well as art in demonstration of the message and themes in the movie or film. The current films tend to be wordier and complicated such that interpretation may not bear creativity but just the repetition and imitation of other works already in the industry. The New World involved the use of ellipses as compared to the current films that may only use the shallow works of art that may end up not revealing the intended theme and message of the movie therefore the target audience may not respond to the piece of work that easily.
The New World entailed the use of a high sensation style to deliver the message to the audience making it more acceptable to the audience. The use of traditional piece of work was more appealing to the audience because it involved creativity and innovation in portraying and delivering the intended message. The originality of the work of art was more valuable as compared to the modern one that mainly involves a lot of imitation of copying behavior.
The movie has tried as much as possible to reflect the theme of romance making it real and valuable to the viewers of the movie. The mode ad style used to show the theme of romance is intended to show the real aspect of life in relation to romance rather than the current films which are littered with a lot of hypothetical acts and situation that are even unrealistic in nature.The movie reflected the traditional culture that involves the use of slow motion compared to the current movies that entail many movements making the actors us a lot of energy in the production and presentation of their arts of work. The displays in the current movies have improved in quality compared to the traditional movies due to the increased use of technology in the production of the movies and films.
In the comparison of the traditional and the current movies, we are able to understand the developments of in the works of art, which are as result of advancements in technology. This also shows the change in the application of lyrics and creative styles to produce excellent pieces of art in the movies and films. There is also a major change in the clothing used in the movies since in the New World the traditional attire was used as compared to the modern attire that has greatly advanced due the changing modernity trends.
As any other historical film, it was right for tern Mallick to incorporate numerous instances that caught the intrinsic emotions and sympathy of its viewers. The performance anchored by intrinsic emotions made a majority of its viewers savor and in addition, prolong the physical intensity of the feelings that deluged them.
Despite the few adjustments to suit modernity mainly the sound and color editing that gave the film an hyper-cine and literate catch was most significant enhancing the reception of the film in the today’s contemporary world. However, apart from the few modifications of the film here and there to give it a modern touch, one would unquestionably be convinced that the film was developed more than 80 years ago. This has contributed to the association and relation of the film new world 2005 with other historical films like the Flaherty’s Tabu and the like of the Murnau.
The film new world made use of natural lighting for a better part of its performance. It is considered to be an organic and a plain air of film development. This enhanced the capture of captivating and beautiful visual ephemera. He also tried to portray the romantic motifs by relating his work of art to the nature like the warmth of the sun and the mythical views to make it sound natural and appealing to human senses. This play on the love story helps to bring out the whole issue of romance in that society.
The symbol of a bird was used to reflect the entrance of the territories of the enemy making them react and bursting the war which made people of the two tribes fight aggressively against each other. This use of the natural setting and creatures makes it more creative and sound to the human mind.
This movie show how the audience responded to the clothing and expressions of the actors which sounded unique and creative to the whole audience. This was inspirational since it is attached to the culture and lifestyle of the people. The paintings used also gave an impressive view to the human vision since it was attractive to the eyes. This helped to bring out the elements which faded out with time but this reminds the people of their tradition.
Malick also gave attention to the world colors which depicted different senses and feeling of the surrounding and the setting of the movie. The movie reflected how the commanders and rulers acted and conducted their duties in a formal manner which depicted a chain of command and authority. The view of the leaders dressing was given emphasis due to the sense of authority attached to it.
The unique combination of both modern and traditional techniques in the development of the film The New World 2005 contributes to the immeasurable success of the film. Up to date, the film stands out tall, magnificent and isolated compared to the numerous modern films which have been eroded only within fortnights.
