A project is an impermanent undertaking that is designed to generate a designated result, service or product. Project management can be described as the application of skills and knowledge as well as techniques and tools to the activities of the project to meet the expectations of the project. It is the activity of organizing, controlling resources and planning all persons and resources involved in the project so as to achieve specific goals and intentions of the project.Project initiation is the evaluation stage. It is the stage where all projects that have been proposed are brought to the table and the best project chosen for implementation. During this stage, the project is recognized, its objectives are well defined and the goals are also set out.
A project sponsor is a critical in the project initiation stage. A sponsor assists in decision making. A sponsor also provides guidance to how best to tackle the project as well as acting as a link between the team members in the project and the community that the project wants to target. They will monitor and provide leadership. They will also assist in marketing the project to the community and all the stakeholders involved in the project. There is a project where a team of students in a university intends to turn the trash in the offices and neighborhood to cash. This will be by recycling the waste material. The purpose and objectives of this project will be to reduce the wastage of resources as well as control the levels of environmental degradation caused by waste materials in the neighborhood.
In the process of minimal waste control, the team will recycle some products and sell them to earn an income. Some of the products to be manufactured will include tissue papers. A project charter will also be put up so that the core mission and vision of the project can be displayed to all stakeholders of the project. To properly finalize and achieve all the goals and objectives set out by the project, a proper project management process is of the essence. A project management process should follow the following stages for it to be a success. Project initiation stage is the first stage of project management. The activities relating to the project are well analyzed. In this project of trash collection and recycling, the objective is to ensure that all trash is collected and is scheduled for recycle.
Project planning stage is the second stage in project management. It is the most crucial stage in project management. This is because the team members and the leader must brainstorm to make sure that the project is a success. In this stage, all details that pertain to the project are spelt out. All the requirements, deadlines, monetary requirements and roles are addressed. The third stage is project execution. In this stage, actual activities spelt out in the planning stage are implemented. In this project, team members visit household and institutions and collect trash from all the members and bring them to the recycle points. They are then recycled and wastage reduced in the institutions.
A clean environment is maintained as a result of recycling. After execution, control and validation of the project takes place. This involves checking if all the objectives of the project were met and if there are any ways of improving them. The key stakeholders in the project will include all members of staff, fellow students and the community that resides within the environs of the university. They will have an impact on this project as they will provide the waste materials from their respective areas, may it be residential places or places of work. The benefits that these stakeholders will accrue as a result of embracing the project will include conservation of the environment as well as recycling all the waste products and, therefore, reduce wastage.Experts will not be required in this project as the raw materials needed for the project are readily available and no technicalities are involved.
