MULTICS
Refers to a time-sharing operating system initiated in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1964. It contained features that support multiple computing utility such as telephone and electricity. It contained separate access control that made it hard to share information freely, but privacy is guaranteed. Multics utilized standard mechanisms for system performance and utilization.
Multic is implemented on a single level store for data access and did not have a distinction between files and process memory. Read and write operations utilized normal CPU instructions. All the memory in the system was stored in a segment in the file system. Multics had one disadvantage concerning the size of the segments stored. It was limited to only 256 kilowords equivalent to just 1MiB.
Host Way global solutions is a remote and offsite backup company that provide storage solutions for data in secure and off-site locations. Off-site services are used to back up servers in the client’s offices or data center.
Another company that provides off-site data protection and media management is Crown records management. The company is located in New Jersey and serves local clients.
Both companies offer off-site data storage facilities and ensure that back up of data is possible after an accident or catastrophe to their clients. They deal with both active and inactive files.
HostWay solutions provide a range of services including cloud hosting, managed hosting, domains and web hosting for both public and private cloud servers and managed hosting. Crown Records management on the other hand specializes in storing data in backup and magnetic tapes and stored in safe locations. The difference between the two companies is that while Hostway utilize the clouds, Crown Records use backup tapes.
There is difference in cost implications between the two storage mechanisms. Cloud storage is more secure and therefore more expensive than Crown Records backup tapes.
