The chosen artwork is entitled Dionysus with Pan, created in the marble medium, dates back to 50–150 AD. The overall dimensions of the sculpture are as follows: 52 x 25 x 16 in. (132.1 x 63.5 x 40.6 cm) Base: 27 x 23 x 26 in. (68.6 x 58.4 x 66 cm). The current location of the sculpture is in the Audrey Jones Beck Building; 200 Jamail Atrium at The Museum of Fine Arts, Huston (MFAH).
The main man of the piece (Dionysus) looks young and is quite tall, as he stands next to an old being that is half man and half goat (Pan). You can tell that the small man is part goat as his feet are goat hooves. The tall man holds what looks to be a ritual staff right by his side, as the goat-man stares straight at the staff. The whole piece is done in an off white marble and stands on a round shaped base. The piece looks big but is just close to two feet in height. Both men lean on a stump like stand but stand in front of it, which is just half of the goat-man’s size. The carved piece is smooth and gives off a slight shine from side to side. The tall man looks to be a god as he wears no clothes but a thin sheet or weave of cloth with grapes on his head. Though, the goat-man wears a cloak like suit while he holds a thick stick or branch. Both men have long hair, but goat-man has a beard and tall man does not. Tall man looks down at goat-man with a plain face as goat-man has one arm on tall man’s back like a hug or pat-like position. Both men are fit and you can see their abs and curves. Tall man’s legs have a slight bend at the knees and his legs cross over. The scene looks very real and shows a male bond.
