Music brings about social change in a society. Popular music has led to social change, and, therefore, changed to how people live, their attitudes and beliefs. After the 9/11 attack, Franti and Spearhead released the song ‘Bomb the World’ which has become a common protest song. The song conveys a contrasting look at war and global politics and relations. The song has made Americans patriotic because it has enabled Americans see what terrorists did to their country.
Franti conveys the message that bombing other countries cannot solve anything, passing a message to listeners that bombing cannot bring peace, but instead causes other bigger problems. He addresses that patriotic vs. Patriotism causes the division in the world. The song triggers hatred when it reminds listeners that the ‘positive’ benefits of a war remain with the powerful party.
Franti tries to prevent the American military from chasing the Iraqis since destroying them does not mean there would be peace, implying that the outcome might be unexpected, and the Americans should be ready for anything. Franti emphasizes peace and love in the whole world making it clear to everyone that they should endeavor to exercise peace. This implies that, despite someone’s patriotism, they should respect world peace and understand that bombing can never lead to unity.
Franti would like to see people understand that promoting peace can be the only way of attaining a better world. The song can be influential in bringing changes that can help the world become more peaceful. “Power to peaceful” which is a line from the song has brought tremendous significance. It has led to the establishment of a non-profit organization, with the same name, which aims at bringing peace through giving back to the community. It has also created festivals that encourage social interactions to make the world a peaceful place. The song aims to spread hope by bringing peace to a world that experiences bombings.
