Deadpool Synopsis
The story of the film revolves around the character named Wade Wilson who is a former Special Forces operative and now works as a mercenary in New York. He meets Vanessa Carlysle who is an escort in a local bar and after one year into their relationship, Wade finally decides to propose to her but finds out that he has terminal cancer. Then a mysterious person from a certain secret program approaches him and offers him to join an experimental cure for his cancer. Although he was initially hesitant, Wade decided to leave Vanessa and undergo the experimental treatment.
Wade was injected with a serum that is designed to awaken his mutant genes and this subjected him to days of torture in order to trigger the mutation. In the end, Wade discovered that the experiment was not for a cancer treatment but the facility wanted to make slaves with powerful abilities in order to be sold to wealthy buyers. While inside the facility, Wade was able to develop healing powers which cured his cancer but because of the days of torture, his body and face was left with burn scars. Wade escapes the facility and tries to find a cure for his appearance and at the same time look for the man responsible for it – Ajax. Learning about his plan, Ajax kidnapped Vanessa and Wade went to save her. While on a fight Ajax confessed to Wade that there is no cure for his disfigurement and then Wade finally kills Ajax and reunites with Vanessa (Miller, Kinberg, Reynolds, and Shuler Donner).
Importance of Film Score
Ever since the creation of the first feature length films, music has proven to play a prominent role in the industry. A compelling film score has kept the audience interested during the silent film era and this has evolved through the years even when films already utilized the use of dialogues. Many people do not realize the importance of the film score and although it is an integral part of the movie watching experience, people still tend to overlook this part. Attention to detail and huge effort is done in creating and integrating a good soundtrack as it produce the necessary effect to the audience. Filmmakers also use classical music in dramatic scenes and also in many action scenes in movies like “Deadpool” (Hagle).
Music is one of the most direct connections the movie has to the viewers’ emotions and senses. One of the most basic purposes of music in the film is to set the mood. Aside from that, it usually will add color and solidify the director’s intention in the scene. The scene may intend to scare anger or make the viewer fall in love. All of these can have a huge impact if the right music is used in the scene.
Deadpool Analysis
The background music played a big role in setting the mood of the sequences in the film. The part where it showed the early relationship of Wade and Vanessa, the music gave the audiences a more romantic feel to the scenes. It also helped in shifting the mood from romantic to something depressing after Wade found out that he is dying from terminal cancer. The music is very important to let the audience feel empathy towards the character and also feel the sadness that the couple is feeling as of the moment. The sad music gives the audience a taste of what they would feel if they are in Wade’s or Vanessa’s shoes.
Music also plays a role in introducing the personality of a certain character in the film. It was clear that Wade changed after what happened in the failed experiment on him as he became a vigilante who did not care about the rules. In many of his action sequences, it was accompanies by an exciting music which help builds up the anticipation of the audiences. The right music will trigger excitement and that is why it is important for composers and even sound engineers to cooperate with the director in order to produce the desired emotions from the audience. Strong background music is also used to introduce the film’s villain Ajax to show his strong and intimidating personality.
The action scenes also needed the right music so that the audience will continue to feel the excitement. Music can set the mood and also try to provide certain plot twists that the viewers can anticipate coming. Near the ending, Ajax revealed that Wade cannot be cured from his disfigurement but it also revealed that Vanessa still accepted him no matter how he looks. The ending part provided a background music that triggers a sense of relief for the viewers. It was appropriate since the ending should give a sense of closure and not excitement; and that is how the music was played by the end of the film.
Conclusion
Without the soundtrack and the background music present in the film, the people will not have the same enjoyable experience that they felt after watching the film. The movie “Deadpool” was not only successful because of its well-directed action scenes and its well-written storyline but also because of the right music that accompanied the scenes. Many people do not realize this but the music provided a significant impact on their movie experience. This shows that the power of music is limitless. For action movies like “Deadpool” music is important in order to snap the viewers’ attention and also draw out emotions like anger and excitement before they can even process what they are about to see.
Music can also help change the mood of the scenes in the film. On the first part of the film Wade and Vanessa are happily celebrating their relationship and the next scene, Wade finds out that he is about to die from cancer. With the help of music, the audience can instantly change their emotions in line with the happenings in the film. Music can help the audience to feel pity or sad for Wade and Vanessa and also relate to their feelings toward each other. It would be hard to feel sad or feel the love that they have without the background music which accompanies the sequences. It also plays a vital role in the different actions scenes as it triggers a sense of excitement for the viewers.
Lastly, the music glues the scenes of the movie altogether. Just like in the beginning, the romantic scenes were changed by the sad news of Wade’s sickness and then his torture in the facility. Music played an important role in making sure that the audience understands the flow of the story despite the many sequences and plot changes.
