According to the documented Basic Human Needs Self-Assessment for Health guidelines (Eliopoulos, 2014), personal health not only entails maintaining good physical health, but also involves the entire process of ensuring the body is kept healthy. Such measures include ensuring proper nutritional uptake, regular exercise among other measures as discoursed in this text. A personal appraisal of my health status will thus be beneficial in offering insights into my health condition as well as offer plausible suggestions on improving my personal wellness and health.
Personal analysis
A quick appraisal of my personal health status using the provided format indicates that my personal movement is limited due to the nature of my profession. Additionally, I do not have sufficient rest according to the recommended 6 hour sleep for adults. As a professional, my average daily rest hours is 4. Adequate rest is a luxury to me because of the demanding nature of the health profession, not forgetting the limited recreational time and time for socializing outside the work environment.
However, my personal vital signs including BP, respiration, body temperature and pulse rate record normal readings. According to Parmelee (2014) normal body temperature for a healthy adult ranges between 36.5 Celsius to 37.5 degrees C. This fact however depends on other circumstances such as gender, quantity of fluid intake or menstrual cycle in women. Personally, I have a temperature reading of 37 degrees Celsius and a pulse rate of 70 beats per minute, this vital sign is a normal adult reading. Furthermore, at a respiration rate of 14 breaths per minute and a BP of120 mm Hg systolic pressure is a healthy indicator. However, as the Basic Human Needs Self-Assessment for Health format documents, health and wellness also includes comfort, nutrition and safety. These are wanting areas in my life and are indicative of lack of optimum wholesome and wellness. Nutritionally, my dietary intake is mostly deficient of the recommended vegetables and fruit intake. Being a healthcare provider, risk is an everyday reality and safety is a distant memory. All these parameters summarize my health status currently based on the Basic Needs Self-Assessment for Health format by Eliopoulos, (2014).
Consequentially, I need to rest more despite work pressures. I also have to eat healthier meals in order to improve my nutritional status and avoid preventable diseases. With proper rest and recreating more therefore, in addition to the areas I seek to improve on, achieving optimum health and wellness will be a reality.
