My mother is the best gift I have ever had. Our relationship is of many dimensions. She has been my companion, my helper, my mentor, my hope and everything one can expect from a selfless person. I am saying this because there are very many people out there who have never had a chance to experience even a fraction of what I have experienced with my mother. Needless to say, I have a reason to smile whenever the thought of my mother crosses my mind.
My mother had to take 2 years leave so as to make sure that I had the best parental care after I was born, unlike other mothers who resume their work a few months after delivery. She was always particular with my babysitter and what I was fed with ever since. She did this so as to ensure that my upbringing could determine my character, attitude, and perception to various issues. For example, she has never entertained the idea of me roaming in the streets with other boys. She also had the teachers watch over me in school and ensured that I had extra coaching in the subjects I had difficulties in.
I have always been exempted from corporal punishment since I was born. My mother believes that sense is not instilled by the rod only. She has always guided me whenever I go astray and always lets me know the right way of doing things. She always tells me that no one is perfect and we should be patient with each other because we are supposed to learn from our friends’ and our own mistakes.
There is no point in my life have ever felt out of place or neglected. My mother has always shared my joy and my sorrow. Whenever I am happy, she always rejoices with me. She has offered a shoulder for me to lean unto when I am in hard times. She has made it clear to me that life is not a bed of roses hence I should hope for the best and prepare for the worst. She always tells me to bear in mind that hard times are not there to last and always be thankful for life’s good moments.
My mother perceives issues from a different a different angle. She always gives me courage whenever I fail. She is never contemptuous with me at any time. She believes that we should emerge successful in whatever we do no matter the time frame provide we always dedicate our time to hard and devote ourselves with determination. In all the moments I failed, she has always advised me to keep hoping that all will be well and always face the challenges with redefined approach. This has taught me to expect anything in life because one cannot determine their fate. Through my mother’s encouragement, I have learnt to accept challenges and I always strive not to let her down.
I am now a grown up person, full of myself and always independent. My mother’s words are always fresh in my mind ‘my son. Always be yourself.’ I have wondered why other women won’t be like my mother. I have witnessed children being mistreated by their own mothers, while others just opt to suffer in silence because they know that their mothers won’t give them a hand during difficulties. However, I have a feeling that one day all women will perceive their kids as a blessing and treat them like their treasure.
