My Plan
My plan for reviewing the NCLEX will take into account various considerations. Firstly, I will focus on my learning style in order to learn and understand effectively. This approach is considered by the Nurse Journal (2016) which indicates that for one to pass the NCLEX, “one should develop excellent study habits which mirror your personal learning style.” In consideration of my visual learning style as suggested by the Nurse Journal (2016), I plan to develop flash cards as a memory enhancement technique and also highlight various aspects of my reading material.
At the same time, I plan to assess my strengths and weaknesses, so as to determine where I can focus my time and energy. For instance, I am very good at collaborating with others in group settings, as I find it a bit difficult to focus on my own. For this reason, I plan on utilizing a group work. I can engage my team in discussing potential material from the NCLEX.
I plan to implement my review in a period of four weeks prior to the test. This timeframe will allow me to remember the material I learned; hence make it relatable to the test questions. The review method I will apply during this time is practice questions. This will be carried out in a group setting so I can be able to broaden my perspective in regards to the question in focus.
In each review session, I plan on ensuring I have necessary materials and at the same time ensure I am relaxed and focused solely on the session (Nurse Journal, 2016). As mentioned previously, the review material I will apply is through practice questions which I can obtain from review books. According to the Nurse Journal (2016), “a good review book will improve my test taking skills and confidence.”
However, some barriers may challenge my review process. For instance, my temporary job will limit my ability to invest additional hours in my studying. Also, since I work best collaboratively, finding a good study group may be a challenge. In this case, I plan on planning my time effectively. For instance, I can use my work breaks to go through two or more practice questions.
