As an accounting student, I have very specific goals and career objectives, as well as designated jobs that I would wish to undertake once I graduate from the campus. Accounting is a wide and dynamic field, with its disciplines multifaceted across all areas of professional paradigms. Therefore, proficiency in accounting does not limit an individual to one task, especially when it’s done on a wide scale and scope (Godfrey, & Chalmers, 2007). Based on my career manifestation, I have yearned to work for two multinational companies, Coca-Cola and Samsung. These companies have international operational scope, thus their ability to offer diversity at work environment and skill incubation. For example, Coca-Cola is rated as a giant multinational company having several decades of operation in the refreshment industry. At least every country across the globe has a coke production plant and several distribution outlets. On the other hand, Samsung is one of the leading companies in the electronic market, providing customers with a wide range of electrical and electronic appliances.
Coca-Cola Company has its target being the general, and it seeks to sustain this lead against internal and external competitions. In this context, the Coke’s customer-base remains the public who consume its Carbonated Drinks and water. Similarly, Samsung Company’s target market remains the public gut who directly consumes their electrical and electronic markets. Items like fridges, electronic cookers, among other wide range of electronic appliances are common household and commercial appliances.
Coke and Samsung, just like any corporate have dire demand for varied skills to propel their activities beyond borders. With skills ranging from sales, accountancy, to human resource, these companies need nothing short of excellence and competence. With regards to the accounting discipline, these companies need transferrable accounting skills like preparation of balance sheet, the skills to project performance in terms of the company’s finances, skills to handle critical financial balancing (Htay, 2012). All these skills are critical to the operation and sustainability to the two companies. So, these potential employers would look for such skills and capability on prospective accounting student.
These companies hire in various positions depending on the job demands, or whenever the company wants to expand to another position. Some of the positions that Coke and Samsung seek include; regional accountants, assistant-regional managers, regional finance managers, Chief Finance Officers, Financial Advisors, among other positions. It is imperative to note that these positions are interlinked and well-coordinated for smoother operations.
My main passion to work for these companies attributes to the diversity in which they provide, and my capability to spur positive growth within the company’s financial and accounting sector. In this regards, I intend to inculcate a positive culture of accountability in the company’s operation, ranging from procurement process to the production process (Crosson, & Needles, 2008). Thus, my intention to generate diversity in the accounting sector, and to positive change some weaker accounting structures become my greatest interest to associate with such successful companies.
My skills in accounting range from book keeping, preparation of transaction journals, financial advisory skills, operational and performance forecasting, to financial projection skills. These skills would be to the best interest of these companies since they believe on a transformative agenda of their own portfolios. In addition, my skills in these areas would positive influence progress, and eliminate wastages nd financial mismanagement. In addition, these skills will spearhead sound decision making to the company’s operations.
Other than these skills, I need to advance my core competencies and skills in areas of advanced financial management, and a bit of advanced forecasting, and budgeting. My competency in these areas will spur even better achievement to Samsung and Coke companies who need experience and higher skills in the general accountings.
