Purpose: Persuade the audience to recycle.
Aren’t we all grateful to the Mother Earth for providing us with invaluable natural resources like water, trees, sunlight, air, oil, wind, metal ores, energy, fossil fuels, etc.? Now imagine living on an earth which is depleted of all these resources and full of debris and waste. Yes there is a possibility of this happening if we carelessly waste our resources so freely given to us by nature.
The growing population in the world has changed the pattern of consumption and therefore led to more waste, threatening the global ecosystem and upsetting the natural balance (Bowden 4). With more people living on this planet, there is more consumption of resources, and we are only taking from the Earth not giving it back. It is rally time to act now and one solution to reduce waste is to recycle anything and everything we can.
We need to become more mindful of our consumptions and be judicious in throwing away things or wasting materials, lest a time may come when humans would be deprived of what is so easily available now, for e.g., water. Imagine your bank account from which you keep withdrawing money for your needs but not investing back in it. A day will come when all your monetary resources will be exhausted and you might be bankrupt. It works the same way with the Earth. We need to be more gentle on it and learn to invest in it, so that our future generations have enough resources. And trust me, its not such a Herculean task.
Make the three Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recovery - a daily practice. It’s easy and you can start recycling at home by identifying household waste that can be reused, and make good use of it. For instance, plastic and glass bottles, paper, cardboard and aluminum cans, can be reused and recycled (Becklake 14). Reduce acid rain pollution and global warming by using less energy, walk and cycle instead of using vehicles so that the environment is not polluted, use vegetable and fruit peelings to make compost for your plants, turn off the tap, light, gas etc. when not needed, reduce pollution by not burning waste, instead reuse or recycle it and recover any waste which can be reused (Bennett 6). There are so many ways you can recycle and make this Earth a better place to live for you and for the future generations.

If we recycle paper, we can save a lot of trees and thus preserve our environment. I know a friend who uses old newspapers to make simple handbags to use for shopping or carrying things. Its creative and a good way to recycle as well. In my workplace there’s a tree without any leaves, but full of used/fused bulbs with small money plants in them. It not only looks attractive but shows how creative people can be about recycling.
Making greenhouses is another way of recycling and preserving the environment. Plastic or glass greenhouses protect crops and plants, and conserve energy inside. As stated in the article on Green Schools in Greenschools.net, it is important to bring awareness in children about conserving the environment and our planet, building green schools is encouraged, as it teaches children about health and environmental values which they’ll remember forever, eliminates toxics, uses resources judiciously, and creates green spaces. Environment friendly products are used in a green school and recycling is an important activity.
Now you know for sure that recycling saves precious resources and energy, is a great way to be creative and a gentle way of saving the Earth and keeping it healthy, so don’t you want to join the recycling team?
