Life affords us moments of joy quite randomly. You experience happiness when you least expect it. Other times, you plan for an event, a party or a trip knowing you would have fun. When the trip offers more than you had bargained for, you are over the moon. One such memorable event or trip in my life was my trip to Hong Kong with my boyfriend Raymond. We took the trip after we were finished with High School and it is the most memorable event in my life because the trip bought me so much joy, excitement and happiness. I still spend an awful amount of time thinking about the trip. High School Graduation was the important day of my life and reminded me of the hard work I had out in , the friends I had made and the happy times I had. The trip was a present for all the hard work we had put in and our accomplishments.
I had only heard of Hong Kong and seen a few pictures of it before my trip and I had no idea how many things the place really had to offer. Although we had been planning an overseas trip during the final year of high school, it never really sunk in till I saw the tickets with our names printed on it. The final days before the trip remain a blur as it was spent packing and making sure I was ready with everything. When we finally landed in Hong Kong, I was so excited that I looked like I had never set foot outside of my house for years. Everything was new to me and I was fascinated by everything I saw. The best part of the trip was the shopping because that was the first thing I did. Even before I could go on a sight seeing trip, I started shopping because Hong Kong was filled with malls that sold everything imaginable. From the luxury shops in Admiralty, Central and Soho to the outlet stores in Lantau, Hong Kong was a dream come true for a shopaholic like me. Mong Kok was a revelation as the place was filled with almost everything a person needs in his or her life. It was also the place where I got great bargains at a cheap price.
There are so many places to visit in Hong Kong and since we had the time, we saw everything at a leisurely pace. The first place we visited was the Ocean Park. Hong Kong. It is a theme park and a world class aquarium all rolled into one. I saw sharks, rare animals from Asia and also got a glimpse into the history of Hong Kong. It was thrilling to see the sharks and learn a lot more about their habitat. Raymond and I made it a point to visit Victoria Peak thrice in the same day. It is the highest point in the Island and offers great views. We went in the morning to get a good view of the skyscrapers dotting the city and in the evening to catch the glorious colors of the sunset. Nighttime was really good and all the buildings lighted up and from above the city looked like a constellation of stars. Although I had been to the Disney Land here, I made a trip to the Disney Land in Hong Kong too just to see if it were any different and it was. I was quite impressed by our two days in Lamma Island. The Island is a blend of the east and the west and its architecture was a blend of the two worlds. It was great to relax in the beaches and sunbathe. I wished I could just stay on the beaches forever. The clock tower and the wetland park were the other places I saw in the trip.
The food in Hong Kong was completely different from what I was used to at home and I ate a lot because I wanted to try as many dishes as I could possibly eat. Mt favorites were the Eggettes, Fish balls, Egg tarts, milk tea, steamed rice roll, Chinese pudding, shrimp dumpling and tofu pudding. Although I had eaten some of these foods back home, the taste in Hong Kong was completely different. The flavors and the texture were different and it was tastier. Although I had a stomach ache for most of the days with so much eating, I was determined to stuff in as much as I could.
The trip came to an end soon but it was the most happiest I had been in all my life. Raymond was the best travel companion one could hope for and we took thousands of pictures between us. Even though it's been some time since I went on the trip, I still have sleepless nights thinking about it. I show the pictures to everyone and never miss an opportunity to talk about it to my friends and family. I had never felt so free and so happy before and this trip not only made me extremely happy but also taught me a lot about responsibility. I felt grown up being on my own. Thus the most memorable event in my whole life has been my trip to Hong Kong with my boyfriend.
