Some people have been engrossed with setting specific standards on what comprises a perfect body. Contemporary society has stereotyped perfect features in terms of possessing a whistle bait figure for females: those who possess curves with vital statistics such as 36 inches in the chest or breast area by 24 inches in the waist area and another 36 inches in the hips. Of course, for males, the perfect body could be exemplified in terms of exhibiting well-chiseled frame that showcases a lean abdomen, wide chest, and evenly developed muscles. However, for me personally, my vision of a perfect body is that which adheres to an appropriate body mass index or weight according to the height of the person. This means that I tend to focus more on the person being in perfect health condition; more than focusing on aesthetic qualities and features.
My vision of a perfect body is actually influenced by theoretical frameworks on health education and physical fitness. I could actually acknowledge that most of the advertisements in different media have promoted a wrong concept of the perfect body in terms of focusing only on physical traits, as described above. I am convinced that this wrong notion have actually contributed to living a lifestyle that could be detrimental to a person’s health, in the long run. Some models deliberately miss meals or refuse to eat a balanced diet just to maintain the desired vital statistics. Thus, for me, a perfect body does not have to possess the perfect vital statistics; as long as the person eats a balanced diet; maintains the appropriate body mass index; engages in regular exercise; and is able to live a happy, productive, and high quality life.
