Assignment
Directly observing behavior encompasses four methods. This includes outcome recording, event recording, interval recording, and time sample recording. The outcome recording method applies in uniform behaviors where one expects unique results. Observers can use this easy-to-use method at their own convenience. This is because one checks on the results rather than the observable behavior. Outcome recording can also apply in recording complex behavior. The drawback of this method is that it cannot observe emotions or feelings expressed by people. Consequently, one has to be sure the outcome is unique for the method to apply.
Events recording entail observing behavior during occurrence of the response. This method applies at uniform behaviors that do not leave a result. An analyst applies this method to observe relative uniform behaviors. Then proceed to record the response once there is an instance of the behavior. The benefit of this method is that every response takes uniform amount of time and can record most simple behaviors. Event recording method can also apply on the complex behaviors.
An interval-type method observes non-uniform behavior. Analysts apportion the non-uniform behavior into short intervals. This method has a drawback in that every response takes varying amounts of time since it is a non-uniform behavior. Interval recording entail recording a response of behavior in one series of continuous recording. Analyst uses this method to observe occurrences of non-uniform behaviors that have different lengths. Time sample recording observes a sample of record during discontinuous intervals.
The Study Behavior of School Children
The study of behavior of schoolchildren applies interval-recording method since they are non- uniform behaviors. Observe the non-uniform episode then divide the overall observational period into continuous intervals. Observe each interval to determine the occurrence of a behavior on the portion of the interval. This study entails observing the pupils book to check on the assignments and any other schoolwork materials. Check on the worked problems and record the responses. Apportion a 10-minute observation time to a 10-seconds intervals. The pupil studies 40 percent of the intervals. By applying a model airplane by studying, the study behavior increases more than 90 percent. Observing the study behavior at intervals applies interval recording study behavior.
