Explaining scanning a document for older generation, who is not “on first name basis” with computer technologies.
What you need:
A computer/notebook with a program Abbyy FineReader installed;
A working scanner that is connected to the computer/notebook;
Turn on the scanner and the computer. Give them a minute, for the scanner usually needs time to warm up;
Carefully open the scanner lid. Place you document inside the scanner, facing downwards. With no sharp moves, close the lid.
Open the program Abbyy FineReader Tools window on your PC. A preliminary version of your scanning document will pop up. In this window, you can change the parameters of the document; for example, color, resolution, and perimeter – by adjusting the dotted line to the area you want to scan (if it is all the image, you just need to drag the dotted line to fit the whole image in). Make sure to “Save” the changes, by clicking the appropriate button. Here you can also specify where you want to save the document (driver, folder on your desktop). Once all the parameters are adjusted, you can press the “Scan” button (which can sometimes look like a scanning machine) and the scanning begins.
You will hear a buzzing/hissing sound. It means that the scanner started working. At this point do not open the scanner for the process will be interrupted!
After the process is completed, the image will appear in the same Abbyy FineReader program. Now you can introduce the final changes to the scanned piece. You can rotate the image in the desired direction and then click “Save” and the file will be saved in a predetermined folder. Make sure to choose the needed format before saving (Jpg, PDF, doc.)
If you have been scanning a text document, it may be a little more complicated. The scanner may not recognize the text right away and it may happen because the language of the text and the one in the “Settings” of the Abbyy FineReader do not match. To change this, you need to press “Service”, then “Options” in the pop up that appears you have to change the language to the appropriate one.
Once your scanning is completed, you can open the lid of the scanner and take your document.
Note: Scanning is a relevantly easy process if all the settings are put correctly. However, there is a number of issues that may occur, due to a slight negligence of the basic rules. If you encounter any problems, do not worry. Simply describe you problem in google search (in as few words as possible) and it will show you a number of sites that describe ways to solve your issues. Of course, practice makes perfect! After several scanning, you will be able to write down your own manual, without even looking at the equipment. Good luck!
