Warm Up (5 minutes).
The teacher asks students about differents kind of sports they know:
- what kind of sports do you like?
- have you tried all those sports?
- do you enjoy watching championships?
- do you know some kind of weird sports from other countries?
- are there some kinds of sports you would like to try?
- why haven't you tried it yet?
Development.
The teachers tells about national sports of different countries.
A national sport or national pastime is a sport or game that is considered to be an inside part of the culture of a nation.
The teacher tells students how national sports are grouped.
Some sports are de facto (not set by law) national sports, as baseball is in the United States, ice hockey is in Russia and football is in England, while others are de jure (set by law) national sports, as capoeira is in Brazil and lacross is in Canada.

After translation of the unknown words teacher asks students to make up sentences with each of them. They will answer in random order. It will help to remember new words.
The teacher gives students a list of sentences and they should mark them as True or false. If the sentence is false, student should say the wright statement from the text.

- Wrestling is a sport that can be divided into several categories. Out of them, grease wrestling is the national sport of Turkey (TRUE).
- In America, baseball has a long history and it is recognized as a warm weather sport (TRUE).
Activiy 2. Vocabulary
The teacher put pictures of flags and names of the countries in the board, after that she starts to show pictures of different kinds of sports one by one and students should guess what is their native country.
Flags are in attachments (high quality images), you can choose what to show students: pictures (in attachments) or videos (links below). IMPORTANT! Some videos have names of the countries in the beginning, just play them not from the very beggining.

Pato (Argentina), also called argentine polo. It is a game that combines elements from polo and basketball, players ride horses. The winner is a team with most goals scored. Sloop Sailing (Bahamas) is sailing on a sloop boat. Every year on Bahamas there are several championships. It is an amazing competition. It is not easy to drive that boats, on Bahamas there are a lot of schools os sailing.

Capoeira (Brazil) is a Brazilian martial art that, it has elements of dance, fight and acrobatics. It is known for quick and difficult moves. Capoeira sportsmen use mainly power, speed, and leverage for different kinds of kicks, punches, spins, and other techniques. Lacross (Canada) ia a national sport of Canada. The objective of the game is to score by shooting the ball into an opponent's goal. Players use the lacrosse stick to catch, carry, and pass the ball, the stick designed to chtch and hold the ball. Ice hockey (Canada, Russia - de facto) is a team sport played on ice, skaters use sticks to shoot a hockey puck into their net of another team to score points. Ice hockey is known as a violent game, there were a lot of accidents when a hockey puck broke tooth of sportsmen. Charreria (Mexico) is an event similar to rodeo. It is a Traditional event in Mexico. Now many charros (players) are from families which have culture of charreria through many years life experience. First Charreria was a ranch competition. Eskrima, Arnis and Kali (Phillipines) are traditional martial art of Phillipines. It is a weapon-based fighting, fighters use sticks, knives and other bladed weapons. Games (de facto):
Baseball is a bat-and-ball game. Players divided into two teams, each has nine members. Each player takes time of batting and filding. The pitcher throws a ball, other man hits this ball with a bat and moving counter-clockwise around a series of four bases: first, second, third, and home plate. Cricket (England, Jamaica) is also a bat-and-ball game with two teams of eleven members. In tre center of a cricket field there is a rectangular 22-yard long pitch. Gaelic Football (Ireland) is a trditional Irish team sport, form of football. There are two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass field. The objective of the game is to score points by passing the ball through the other team's goals or a set of two upright posts separated by a crossbar 2.5 metres above the ground. Sumo (Japan) is originated in Japan, and till now it is the only country where sumo is trained professionally. It is a modern Japanese martial art. Sumo is a type of wrestling sport. Taekwondo (South Korea) ia a Korean martial art. It involves self-defence and combat techniques. Rugby Union (Wales, New Zealand) is a full-contact team sport. Two teams of 15 players take part in a game. The game includes running with a oval ball in hands, passing this ball and scoring. Football (Portugal) is one of the most popular sports in the world. Two teams, eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score more than the other team. The teacher asks the class to make a quick resume of the lesson. Maybe today they have heard about things they have not known before, for example that people of Lithuania are good in basketball. This lesson one more time shows that all countries in the world are so different. But because of that even more interesting. Now they have even more chances to enjoy travelling to other countries and maybe they became prouder of their homeland after this lesson.
