The career that I am pursuing for advancement concerns BA in the field of Child and Family Development. Being a student, I read about the Victorian period for which I need to conduct extensive reading and comprehensive study.
My readings about the field have influenced me so much that I need to learn concepts from different angles. To stimulate my understanding about the child and family development in the Victorian Period, I need to learn the manner in which families and their children lived in this prosperity period.
I must look at what were the fertility rates, what was the family situation in those times, any presence of child labor, and more importantly, what was the social setup in times of Victorian Period. As a student keen to learn child and family development, I must look at the manner in which children of rich and poor families lead their lives in those times. For instance, poor children needed to work to support their families. Agile boys and small children were employed by the coal mines and chimney sweeps .
Therefore, I need to look at what professions did the poor children undertook and where they were employed in a majority. Children in the rich families did not spend a different but an affection-less and lonely life since they were raised by an unmarried and old aged nanny. They received less attention from their parents during the day . Studying the social setup is important because, in those times, there were fewer men than women due to which female prostitution became popular in the Victorian Period. Overall, as a student, I need to study child and family development in Victorian Period as a sociologist from every different social angle.
