Needs Assessment
It is always good to conduct a needs assessment process before deciding on the possible solutions that are applicable in any problematic setup. It is aimed at determining the state of affairs of a given situation. It calls for several activities that can be used to collect the required information. In the teaching and learning process, it is always good to conduct a needs assessment about the student’s learning needs, wishes and desires. The best way to go about it is by the use of a questionnaire.
Specific Objectives
a) To investigate and establish the state of affairs of the teaching and learning process before developing solutions to it.
b) To obtain the right information about the most appropriate mechanism that can be used to arrive at the solution.
c) Good to conduct a needs assessment about the student’s learning needs, wishes and desires.
Methodology
The reason as to why this assessment is done is to determine the best way forward towards achieving good results in the entire teaching and learning process. There are several mechanisms that can be used to arrive at this and the best one in this case is by use of a questionnaire. This is so because all the stakeholders involved are fully involved by participating in the entire process. Both the learners and the teachers are subjected to an exercise where they are expected to give an honest feedback or response to the questions asked.
As a head of department, various tasks are assigned to you and a group of workmates are working under you. This then means that the head of department is tasked to foresee a smooth running of operations in the department. This calls for supervision and always ensuring that everything is done according to the expectations of the superiors as well as the organization in general. The head of department is also tasked to take full responsibility for the outcome of any result from the department and it does not matter if the results are positive or negative.
Taking the perspective of a head of department, there are very many observations that are made. Through proper answering of these questions, then the needs assessment process will be complete

Not all employees in the same position will perform their tasks in the same manner. Because all of them have different forms of motivations thereby their output will be very different.

The supervisors will be liable to giving the same kind of analysis or feedback from their respective areas of duty.

Different employees work at their own pace and therefore it will be very difficult to assess them in the same way using the same measures.

Not all employees will use the same procedures in performing identical job tasks because most employees tend to devise their own mechanisms of arriving at the results in the shortest and more efficient way.
e) Customers compliment your organization about the consistency of employee procedures. True
Customers easily compliment the organization in the employees work.
f) Similar quality standards are achieved by all employees. False
It is not always the case that similar quality standards are achieved by employees.
g) The definition of ‘good’ performance is understood by all employees at your organization. True
There is a possibility that all the employees will understand what it means to have well performs.
At the end of this assessment exercise, as a head of department, one will be able to establish the problem and provide a possible solution to the problem. Through the solution then the problem will easily be gotten rid of.
