Introduction
We are all born with certain behaviors and/or attributes that shape us as we get older. What also shape us are the things we see in the news, media, and in our everyday lives. Some of the things that we witness, or see in front of us everyday play a major role in how some of our behaviors are developed. Classical conditioning would best help me reach my goal because if I surround myself with those who think the way I would like to think, I would probably be able to "train" myself into thinking more positive thoughts instead of getting riled up about things I cannot control.
One behavior that I want to eliminate is the tendency to get angry about things that I cannot control. Things such as children getting abused, rape and police brutality. Every single day, I see a new story on the news that talks about another unarmed young person losing their lives in the hands of police officers who are supposed to be protecting us, children getting abused by their parents or caregivers, and people getting raped and getting excused for it. For example, the world went into a rage when the story of Sandra Bland made airwaves. Sandra Bland was a woman who died in a Texas jail cell after being arrested by an aggressive police officer. The nation, myself included, went crazy once we saw evidence that she did not do anything wrong, was sent to jail, and suddenly died in her cell. It didn't help that was there was footage of her at the jail which showed suspicious activity. Unfortunately, justice wasn't served because the jury refused to indict anyone in relation to her death (Ford & Payne, 2015).
Conclusion
I need to make attempts to eliminate this behavior because I understand that there are some things that I will never be able to control and that includes what happens to those whose lives are lost by the hands of another person. It's best if I stop getting angry and start taking positive action towards a world that I would like to see.
