Introduction:
Everyone knows that mobile phones nowadays have all sorts of foibles and functions which actually make the mind boggle sometimes. Picture yourself in a room with nothing to do and lots of time to kill and without a phone to play upon. You will obviously see what you can do to acquire one and although a smartphone is a good solution, you have to be careful on what might happen if you don’t use it well.
A smart phone is a gadget which is in all sorts of use nowadays and this is true both in the world of work and also the world of leisure (PC Magazine, 2010). Today, almost everyone has a smart phone be it a blackberry or an iPhone or some other brand. Having a smart phone connects you the outside world and also brings a whole new window of opportunities to life and the way ahead. Obviously you can use your smart phone in a negative way but also in a positive one. However there are also several negative effects in the use of the smart phone and these may be listed below:
Too much time on the phone
Although using a smart phone may be controlled, when one spends too much time on it, social life suffers accordingly. You end up always connected to the internet and have little time to converse with your friends or relatives. Other negative effects of spending too much time on the phone could be linked to accidents if you use it while driving your car and suchlike. There are also a vast number of games and other social networks such as Facebook which make you spend a lot of time on the phone unnecessarily. One should be extra careful not to spend too much time on the phone due to these negative effects. This happened once to a friend of mine who ended up crashing his car since he was so addicted on his phone. Personally I was using my smartphone all the time to message and talk with someone else and was found out by my partner who then obviously did not trust me anymore as a consequence of my doings with the phone.
Radiation
A phone obviously emits radiation all the time and spending too much time on it obviously exposes one to constant radiation. This creates a situation where the phone can be a health hazard and due to all this intense radiation, one can have his/her health affected. One should be extra careful not to spend too much time on the phone as this creates problems which can affect your brain and also affect the way you live. Eyes can also be harmed if you spend too much time looking at your phone screen (Nusca 2009).
Charges and costs:
A phone with an internet connection obviously consumes a lot of costs even if you are on a monthly plan. One should take extra care especially when going abroad as the costs are quite enormous in this respect especially if you connect to social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Some companies charge considerable costs per download as much as 15 cents per 1kB of downloads so your bill could run up to serious amounts if you aren’t careful. One has to be careful not to let the smart phone rule your life as the situation can get quite impossible with all those networking sites and the relevant problems that they create. Everyone should take notice of what happens with these sites and not use their smart phone for ridiculous things.
Relationships
Smart phones can have a negative effect on relationships when a person or person carries on with someone else thus obviously affecting their current relationship. Everyone knows that too much time on the phone can be an issue and this is constantly creating big problems for everyone especially married people who have to face temptations every day. The smart phone is a good tool which should be used well but everyone has to take care that situations like these do not negatively affect you. There have been issues where one partner found that the other was using his/her mobile phone to date others and that obviously creates a crisis in any relationship.
Gadgets and technology:
Although smart phones are very useful tools and excellent gadgets in their own sense, one can get slightly confused with everything that is on offer. You have to be careful to ensure that your life is not ruled by this gadget as otherwise the situation can get extremely uncomfortable. The various types of applications on the smart phone create a bad situation as you are constantly looking at what you want to download etc etc. This is obviously not a good state of affairs as your life will end up being ruled by the gadget and you will never find peace with it or without it, you will miss it considerably.
The negative effects of the smart phone – round up
We have already discussed that the smart phone is an interesting gadget which can make your life easier but still one has to be considerably careful on the negative effects that this may cause. These range from problems with radiation, problems in relationships and other negative issues such as the intense use of gadgets which can only create further problems in this sense.
You have to be careful that your life is not dictated by your smart phone and that you do not arrive at a situation where you cannot continue living without your phone as this will make your life extremely miserable. You have to continue making the best out of your smart phone in every respect as this is an important issue and it will remain so if you use your smart phone improperly. You have to be careful not to let your life be dictated by the phone and ensure that everything is according to your plans.
Finally there are health issues involved where your phone is concerned and one cannot continue to live in a situation where his/her health is affected negatively. You must take great care where radiation is concerned and you must also look at what is healthy for you in every sense and direction. A smart phone is a very useful gadget yet you have to be more than careful that your life is not dictated by it and that you do not remain stuck to it for the rest of your life.
