Hayter (2011) asserts that a collective bargaining agreement is an existing agreement existing between workers and their employers which regulate the conditions, as well as, terms that are used in the workplace. Negotiating for higher pay and compensation is at the heart of concern for workers in different sectors. In negotiating for higher pay, it is fundamental to comprehend the pay scales used by the government. This ensures that an ascertainment of the employee category and grade becomes commensurate with the increase in the salary and compensation being sought. Also, making sure that there is a conformity between the work being and the reward offered provides the grounds for the bargaining agreement.
Negotiating for the benefits packages is also important in addressing the employee concerns. For the sufficient accomplishment of this objective, one should ensure that he possesses the right skills and talents that would act as a source of confidence and possibly warrant the additional packages. Therefore, in the collective bargaining agreement, the professional level, skills, and even the experience should be availed. Lastly, workplace conditions, as well as, the general cleanliness of the organization has been mentioned. The benefit programs to be bargained for would comprise the provision of a health insurance, bonuses and also commissions for good performance, both paid and unpaid leafs, flexibility in the work schedules and government provision of training and the opportunities for educational advancements.
What to give up to have the three issues.
In order to have the aforementioned issues above and for the attainment of the success of the bargaining agreement, boosting one’s general performance for the improvement in the productivity and output of the government institution is paramount. Giving one's full time towards the fulfillment of the available work ensures that the management does not relent on its promise of providing and improving on the areas of concerns as mentioned by the employees. It is also fundamental to take a democratic stand when negotiating for the better terms of work. This ensures that both sides i.e. the employees and the employers reach the terms that may be deemed as favorable to both of them.
