Nestle company is ever committed to offering back to the community in the areas where it operates its business. In fact, Nestle Company is dedicated to assisting the community and the development of the nation in the Philippines as presented by its SWOT analysis. The company has fostered this by developing various programs to help the needy members of Philippine’s societies. For instance, Nestle Company has played a great role in the nation through the development of a training program for the farmers. It has extended its hands to providing training on the farmers to improve their knowledge and skills on how to improve their crops through the application better farming methods. Besides, the company visits the farmers of the nation to offer guidance and emphasize the importance of proper plantation management. The training of the farmers is a key factor in promoting innovative share value. Its assistance to the farmers has led to a better yield of the coffee products thus increasing the supply of the products and the revenues of the farmers.
Besides, the company also encourages the need to foster good health and nutrition among the member of the society where it operates. As part of its service to the community, the company has developed feeding and medical programs to assist it in ensuring proper healthcare for the immediate communities where it operates. As a matter of fact, the company is dedicated to ensuring food safety among the community members. The leadership of the company works tireless in guiding its members in fostering good health and nutrition in the society (Jones, 2012).
Environmental conservation in another area where Nestle Company has ensured promoted its corporate social responsibility. The company is very conscious of the need to protect the environment where it operates. Nestle has taken various measures to promote a clean environment in the community where it has a business. For instance, it has developed a solid waste management program whose aim is to ensure proper disposal of solid waste to keep the environment clean always. Additionally, the company is dedicated to reducing water usage and conserving energy. It has proper methods of treating and recycling water through the use of its powerful generators. Furthermore, the company also uses recovery and recycling as a method of reducing environmental pollution. This is the methods used by the company when packaging to ensure efficiency in the supply chain management (Bell & Shelman, 2009).
Despite the company’s efforts to promote social responsibility in regions where it operates it is worth noting that the company is one among the blacklisted companies in the China for violating the environmental regulation. The company is reported to have caused pollutions that are above the required levels. In fact, the company is subject to faultiness in soil, water and air leading to complaints from the part of some of the nations where the company has a business. An outstanding example of such an incident is the pollution its pumpkin processing plant.
Besides, the company’s social responsibility has been questioned due to its involvement in unethical conduct. For instance, the company is linked with the purchase of cocoa from Ghana in which children have been used as slaves (Jallow, 2009). The use of child labor is against the law provisions hence, it is highly prohibited. Also, the company has acted unethically by marketing artificial milk which is believed to have health effects on children. The claim is that such milk lacks some nutrients that are available from the mother’s milk. Thus, the use of such milk may affect the growth and development of children.
