New employee orientation is the factor, which helps new workers, adapt to the conditions of the workplace. In turn, successful integration usually guarantees the proper work of an employee. A new employee orientation in some meanings provides both employees and employers with an opportunity to establish friendly communication and healthy relationships ("Avoid common hiring mistakes to ensure recruitment success", 2015). New employee orientation usually takes one day to introduce an employee to the whole new world of this particular work, its conditions and laws of its life. In these terms, it consists of different parts, which are to describe different aspects of the work.
Agenda
Introduction to Human Resource Management
An integral part of this agenda belongs to Human Resource Management Introduction. However, the aim of HR Managers on the day of new employee’s orientation is not to explain the principles of Human Resource Management, but to implement their knowledge and skills in practice. In other words, all actions, taken by HR Manager during new employee’s orientation are to operate human resources, which are, roughly speaking, employees. The aim of HR Managers of this agenda is to introduce the whole separate world of this school to a totally new person (Capelli, 2015). Additionally, in terms of this agenda, HR Managers are those, who influence the employee’s perception of the school and organize the way this employee understand and see it.
Since the very first time a new employee enters the school, the HR Manager is the one to follow him. The first action of the agenda, which is ‘Welcome & Introduction’, includes the cooperation of both HR Manager and School Administrator in order to present the whole image of the work with all its aspects. In this communication HR manager describes the basic principles of the following day in a manner, which will be the closest to an employee. HR Managers obtain the same position while introducing school rules and policies.
HR Manager is the one to connect an employee to his new place of work. That is why it is HR Manager’s work to show the school and its main departments. On this excursion, the HR Manager tries to integrate the employee into this ‘world’ by showing him this ‘world’. Moreover, during this communication, HR manager presents the main principles and shows the main places to be. According to the fact that this particular employee has not started his work yet, such an excursion is an important part.
During stages, which require School Administrator to cooperate with the HR Manager (Welcome & Introduction and School rules and policies), it is the School Administrator, who knows about this school more (while HR Manager is aware of human resources and can adapt everything school administrator says) (Graham, 2012). During these two stages, due to school administrator’s involvement, an employee reveals all basic aspects of working in this place.
Stage ‘Open classes’ involves employee’s observation (or even participation) of the real-time school events. The School Administrator produces this stage due to high status and authority (as only upper-standing school authorities can enter/interrupt schooling process). This action is of higher importance to an employee as it shows his workplace as it is in ordinary conditions.
Information Technology Department
The role of information technology nowadays has been vitally important for almost all spheres of life, especially education. Information technology is a key principle, which makes the process of educating easier and more effective (Hitachifoundation.org, 2016). The introduction of school’s information technology department is an integral stage, as it can describe all the opportunities the school can give to develop the learning process. Taking into account that most employees start their work with a basic list of skills, introducing information technology department does not include training. This stage only describes the conditions, in which an employee can organize his work and opportunities, he can use.
Finance department
Financial background is supposed to be one of the most important aspects of work for an employee. In these terms, an introducing lecture ought to describe the main issues of the financial system of this school, the rules of accountancies and the valid policies. For an employee, this information reveals the material side of the work, while for the school it omits the possibility of employee’s unjustified expectations and following conflicts based on finance.
However, the financial department would also be able to answer all of the questions the newcomer may have. As they are the ones providing the salary, they will be able to tell the new employee how much he/she will be earning, how much of it goes for taxes, how much goes for medical insurance and other things. This is the perfect time to meet the chief accountant, whom the employee may need to contact in the future work.
Personnel
In the agenda, there are stages, when employees cooperate with school personnel, represented by secretary and HR Manager’s assistant. These stages are also very important, as the employee can see how workers of different statuses treat each other. The communication with secretaries or assistants can reveal the real state of school’s relationships and communication. Besides, an employee is closer to the personnel than to the authorities. In these terms, personnel can describe the workplace from the inside, with all its advantages and disadvantages sounding objective and honest.
As the personnel is department is often responsible for all the additional bonuses that an employee receives this is the time to clearly understand what insurance the person is to receive, how many days he/she gets for vacation, when these vacations can be given and what other additional bonuses the company provide. These may include free access to different resources or places, a corporate library and seasonal gatherings of the staff. This would also be a good chance for the personnel department to ask for ideas and feedback from a person who has not yet gotten used to the system and can see it from a fresh perspective.
The relevance of the agenda
This agenda consists of different stages, which include the communication with different people on the different ages. The agenda is very relevant, as it describes all basic aspects of employee’s future work. The stages are placed in an order to let an employee integrate softly, still, successfully, into the completely new world of educating process.
