Effects of Climate change
Introduction:
Climate change refers to the gradual and lasting change in the weather conditions and patterns in the world over a long period of time. The effects of climate change are adverse and negatively affect the lives of the people and the environment in general since the changes are difficult to predict thereby the no actual precautions measures can be taken. The effects of climate change have led to great arguments and debates in the media concerning the causes, effects as well as the measures that can be put in place to ensure that can be put in place in order to reduce the effects of climate change on the environment.
The topic of climate change have also attracted the attention of the media due to the impact and the intense effects on the lives of the human beings all over the world. The media have therefore taken a wide coverage of the causes of climate change and the ways they can be curbed in a manner to reduce the effects on the lives of human beings. The News coverage have given much emphasis on the effects of climate change and the policies as well as efforts put in place to reduce the effects on the lives of the people. They have given much emphasis on the collaborative efforts of curbing the different countries in the world in prevention and curbing the menace of global warning which is the main contributor to climate change in the world. The news both in the televisions and newspapers or magazines have given wide coverage on the effects of climate change by showing the real life examples in different parts of the world in order to emphasize on the effects of climate change to the lives of human beings and their environment. The attention of the media was also due to the fact that it an issue affecting the whole world.
The news have portrayed global warming to be a major cause of climate change due to its effect on global temperatures. The rise in global temperatures have led to adverse effects in America and different parts of the world. The rise in temperatures have led to unpredictable changes in weather conditions thereby causing a lot of disasters which often results in loss of lives and property in the areas where such disasters take place. The news shows that the global warming leads to melting of glaciers which in turn leads to flooding and rising in sea levels leading to severe destruction of lives and properties of the people living at the coastal regions. The melting of polar glaciers have led to destruction of the ecosystems of the wildlife species and animals living in such Polar Regions. The landslides and mudslides also leads to destruction of property and loss of lives in such regions. The news in the mass media therefore shows such phenomena in order to discourage people from engaging in activities which leads to global warming in order to reduce the effects of such on the environment. The materials in the media concerning effects of climate change are very useful in provision of information that helps the people to reduce the effects of climate change in the whole world. The information is also useful in formulation of strategies of curbing the effects of climate change globally.
The news in the mass media have also demonstrated the causes of global warming like the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The emission of greenhouse gases have therefore been considered a major factor causing global warming therefore they should be given much attention in order to reduce the impact of such global warming both on the lives of the people and the properties (Mendelsohn, 2013). Greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced in by formulating policies which control the operations of industries in order to reduce their effects. The policies have already been put in place in order to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere due to their severe effects on the environment.
Deforestation have also been given focus by the media to be among the main causes of climate change in that when the forests are cleared, the surface area for absorption of carbon dioxide is reduced. The levels of carbon gases therefore accumulates in the atmosphere creating a shield which reflects back rays of the sun to the surface of the earth. The accumulation of temperatures therefore leads to global warming which further leads adverse weather conditions. This may also lead to droughts and famines in some areas which in turn cause the failure of crops and death of live stocks. The death of live stocks and crop failure leads to food security in most parts of the world leading to loss of lives due to hunger like in most parts of Africa. The policies should therefore be put in place in order to plant trees as well as reducing deforestation in order to increase the surface area for reducing the carbon gases in the atmosphere.
The hurricanes and earthquakes are also caused by the climate related changes leading to loss of property and lives of the people. Such hurricanes are caused by the sudden changes in winds and temperatures of the oceans which are basically as a result of changes in global temperatures due to global warming. The effects of hurricanes have been reported at the coastal regions leading to loss of lives and destruction of properties in such regions. The storms have therefore caused destruction in the coastal regions and nearby areas. The drier conditions were experienced in the Caribbean and Southwest of America (Ronit, 2012). These changes generally affects water supply, agriculture, human health and other aspects of the natural environment and the society.
Scientific research have given much emphasis on the causes and effects of climate change in order to reduce the effects on the lives of human beings as well as destruction of property. The non-governmental organizations together with government agencies have allocated a lot of funds in research of climate change and global warming in a bid to give relevant and realistic solutions the menace of climate change due to severe effects on the society. The research aims at reducing as well as eliminating the effects of climate change all over the world in order to secure the properties and lives of people from destruction. The countries have joined hands in order to eradicate or reduce the effects of climate change by formation of policies which are effective in providing solutions to such problems. The collaborative effect is therefore an important aspect since the effects of global warming affects the whole world irrespective of the major contributors to such effects.
The climate related changes are expected to vary as the time goes due to different human an industrial activities in the whole world. The effects of climate are therefore expected to rise due to the high levels of human activity and industrial activity which release more carbon gases to the atmosphere. The efforts should therefore be put in place in order to encourage the use of activities which has little emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The use of plastics encourages the release of carbon emissions into the atmosphere when burnt. The use of such plastic products should be discourage and reduces in order to reduce the effect of such on the atmosphere. The will help in ensuring that the volumes of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere are minimized in order to curb the effects of climate change in the future. This may also help in reducing the intensity of the effects of climate change.
The effects of climate change have attracted the attention of the US government and other countries in the world due to the severe effects on the economic growth. The effects of climate change like flooding, droughts and hurricanes destroys properties leading to a negative effect in the economy of a country. The country may loss people who play a vital role in economic growth and development (Rustad, 2013). The effects of climate change may also affect the rate of investment since some investors may be discouraged to invest in areas which are prone to hurricanes and storms which areas a result of climate change.
In conclusion, the effects of climate change have been given emphasis in the mass media in order to discourage the activities which lead to such effects. The solutions to the effects of climate change have also been shown in the news both mas media and the internet in order to reduce negative impact on the society.
