This essay intends to examine the attributes and leadership theory practiced by a nurse leader. In addition, the essay will seek to answer various questions arising from the study of the American Nurses Association.
The nurse leader I worked with practiced a transformational kind of leadership in which he was able to build a good working relationship with me. Transformational leadership is characterized by the element of motivating staff members. This promotes sharing of vision and mission. The nurse leader had charismatic abilities, which enhanced communication of the organization’s vision in a confident manner (Tate, 2009). The leader inspired me and made me realize my potential in the nursing field. The nurse leader helped me achieve my goals an always encouraged me to keep on maintaining my hard work as a professional nurse.
In the case of a professional nurse organization, the American Nurse Association (ANA) was considered. This study established that joining the American Nurse Association would enable one to benefit in terms of enhancing leadership skills through the services offered by the ANA leadership institute. In addition, a nurse is able to link with all the nurses across the United States and the issues affecting the nursing profession are handled in unison. The leadership opportunities available include the association positions achieved through elections. The position of services can be achieved through voluntary basis or through elections and upon elected one can offer his/her service to the nursing community (American Nurses Association, 2012). The ANA participates in the actively in the American politics through its wing called Political Action Committee, where active and committed members of the association are supported to join the position in the federal office. These individuals always defend the rights of the nurses. The organization works with the political system of the nation through its members elected to the federal office.
