Over the years, there has been a continuous effort aimed at meaningful use of Electronic Health Records. An Electronic Health Record (EHR) is sometimes referred to as Electronic Medical Record; however, the meaning is more or less the same Statistical. Electronic Health Record basically refers to a collection of patient’s information that is well organized and stored electronically; such information are stored in information systems in digital formats. The use of Electronic Health Records has seen to a tremendous improvement in the health sector all over the World. Currently, thorough research is being done on the subject to make it better; aiming towards a more meaningful use of Electronic Data Records (American Statistical Index (ASI)).
In an Electronic Health Record, data items can be shared over different and diverse health care platforms; this is quite advantageous as sharing of such information leads to better and more conclusive diagnosis. Just as any other shared data, Electronic Health Records are shared over a network-connected exchange platform; shared databases are widely used to implement Electronic Health Records adoption (Welfare-to-Work County Assessment, 2015). An Electronic Health Record system is primarily designed to capture and store clinical data accurately and to keep a record of the patient’s health state, not just on a single day but over a long period of time. The fact that these records can be stored over a long duration and vividly reveals a patient’s health status over a longer period of time is what makes it more meaningful (Indiana Campus Profiles)
The topic on the meaningful use of Electronic Health Records is relatively wide and is being researched on daily. Electronic Health Records comes with several advantages; it eliminates the need to track down files to check on a patient’s health information. It also reduces data replication and make data items more eligible, reduces paper work and makes information retrieval easier (Census of Indiana Territory, 1980).
