Increasing the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate degree by 80% will be a key motivator in my education. This will be an increase in the employment opportunities and will guarantee me a job in the medical field. A baccalaureate degree will also ensure that patients receive quality health care which has been my focus in my healthcare career. Many patients are currently losing their lives due to lack of quality and essential health care, however after the employment nurses this will no longer be a challenge.
Doubling the number of nurses with doctorate reason to further education and also a chance to take my medical career to the next level. Medicine is all about learning and a doctorate will be essential in handling many challenges facing the medical field. I have always had a passion for research in the medical field and having the opportunity to do a doctorate will be a value added in my passion for medical research. Many doctors have a passion for pursuing higher education in medicine but many feel discouraged due to lack of promotions even after the doctorate. Increasing the number of nurses with doctorate will create job promotions for many people and this motivates me in my leadership passion, in the medical field. The move to double the number of nurses with a doctorate will require an increase in number of medical institutions, this will offer me a variety of institutions that I can enroll and further my education ((Ridley, 2008).
Nursing is a field that required wide learning and research; it is a field where learning does not end and a nurse has to be well informed on the issues facing the medical field. There are always merging diseases that nurses are required to know. Ensuring continuous learning for the students will ensure that I am updated on all issues in the medical field; this will assist me in my medical practice and provide me with information on dealing with emerging issues in the medical field (Haussler, 2008).
As a registered nurse and currently in school for the Baccalaureate Science of Nursing, increasing my education will increase my chances of advancing in the job market. Most of the employees within the medical field including the government consider academic qualifications as a priority when offering employment. By the year 2020 I will be able to compete with nurses who have completed their doctorate, very few nurses have advanced to doctorate level, this gives me an opportunity for an employment position by either the private or government sector. Nurses with doctorate can also work as lecturers and researchers, advancing my education provide me with wide avenues for employment.
My future role as a nurse is not just focused on just the hospital environment, increasing my education will prepare me for leadership positions within the health sector. There are different areas where nurses and people with expertise in the medical field can take up leadership positions. There are government ministries such as the ministry of health where I can work as a minister in this area. Currently, there are many challenges facing the health sector, and I believe with increased education I will have the opportunity to provide solutions to these challenges. Providing patients with quality healthcare is also something that will come up with increased education. There are many areas that a nurse can venture in with increased education; increased education comes with many opportunities (Denehy, 2000).
