The institutional affiliation
One of the major issues in the US health care industry is considered to be the urgent deficit of nurses. For the last several years the US history has faced the most intense shortage of nurses. Thus, with a decreasing amount of nurses the need for medical workforce is promptly growing.
The current research specifies that the present nursing shortage is different from the last ones. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Employment Projections 2012-2022 published in December 2013, a registered nursing position has been added to the list of the top occupations from the standpoint of job growth (Liz Sheffield, 2016). In its turn, it means that more medical workers will be needed to meet the nation’s health care needs. Moreover, it was determined that almost 30,000 additional nurses should be graduated from nursing schools annually in order to avoid the health care crisis. Besides, the American Nurses Association stated that there would be a requirement for 3.44 million nurses by 2022 (Liz Sheffield, 2016). Nevertheless, there is no evidence of growing people’s willingness to become a nurse. Thus, it would be beneficial to make efforts to generate nursing into a more attractive career choice.
There is no denying the fact that America is currently facing an aging population problem and the number of people after their 65 increases dramatically (Nursingworld.org, 2016). In any case, the majority of today’s nurses is nearing the retirement age. Such demographic shift provoked people to cope with the influence of an aging society. It might not be argued that the senescent society has many medical and health care needs and it might place a heavy burden on the US health care system. Thus, one way to solve this issue is to recruit new workforce with up-to-date intentions of making the health care sector more efficient.
While the demand on nursing workforce is steadily growing, the supply of nurses faces a greater retention and recruitment issues. An essential step in solving this problem is to discover how to involve people into the health care sector. It is also important that positive patient outcomes are linked to nurses with bachelor’s and doctorate degrees. Additionally, there was a reduction in nursing programs over the past years. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing is working with nursing organizations, policy makers, schools and other health facilities in order to provide people with more training places (The Campaign For Nursing’s Future, 2013). Thus, the widening of the medical faculties would give more opportunities for qualified applicants to get proper education. On the other hand, the rise of motivation among working nurses can lead to more productive performance. In fact, industrious work will create innovative solutions that will improve job satisfaction.
